Does anyone know how competitive it is for admission to Barnard’s pre-college programs? Is it more competitive for the one-week than the five?

Thanks!

To my knowledge, you won't find any official statistics on this, but I can't imagine admission would be too competitive. That's not to say that the program isn't a great experience (I did the one-week session two years ago and loved it), but there not enough people who both know about the program and are willing/able to pay for it.

Thank you! I want to do a pre-college program, but I don't think I'll have the time for a 5-week course...so Barnard's one-week program seems like a really good option!

I applied for the 1-week program last year, but I sent in my application really close to the deadline. Unfortunately, by that time, the 1-week program had filled up. They still offered me admission to the 5-week program, but I, like you, didn't have enough time. My advice: get the app in early!

I did the 5 week program last year and absolutely loved it! As for getting in, I don't think it's too hard (at the time when I applied my stats were A LOT lower than they are now). I forget what we came up with or what people said about admission the one day we talked about it...it was something like 1 in 3 get in? That's what one of the RA's said, but most of us agreed that seemed like too large a rejection rate. Only one of the girls on my floor applied with someone else, and her friend was rejected, but she got in.

Anyway, if you're here, I'd assume you're pretty serious about school, so your chances are probably VERY high. Just apply early and write a good essay. (Also, the fact that you're getting rec's this year will come in VERY handy next year when you're applying for college)

Neither program is that competitive.
