Barrett chances

Alright I’m an in-state applicant. My biggest worry is my GPA, I did pretty badly my freshman/sophomore year but I tried to bring my gpa up my junior year. There’s a clear upward trend throughout all semesters of high school, and in my last semester of junior year i got a 3.75 unweighted and a 4.25 weighted. I have a pretty good and unique essay idea so I should hopefully write a good essay. Please let me know what you think!

SAT: 2100/2400 (1440/1600) (750 CR 690 M 660 W)
ACT: 31 (retaking for a 34+ because i didnt study for the 31)
GPA: 3.62 Unweighted, 3.97 weighted (we use the +/- system)

Clubs:
Speech and debate (varsity member, co-captain, participated in all of high school)
National Honors Society
Spanish Honors Society
Diplomatic Corp. (shadow program)
Literary arts magazine committee (1 year)

Volunteer Work:
Over 200 hours at TeenLifeline (and counting) (basically I’m a counselor)
Spent 80 hours tutoring children over a summer
Kino Border Initiative (went to mexico to work at a soup kitchen for 1 night)
Other small things that probably add to around 30-40 hours of work

Awards:
Has won multiple debate tournaments
3rd at 5A State this year
Co-Champion at the National Qualifier and qualified to nationals.
Top 60 at the national debate tournament

Honors and AP classes:

Freshman year–Honors english, Honors Geometry, Honors Chemistry

Sophomore year-- AP Biology, Honors English 2, Honors Algebra 2 (Got a 3 on the AP bio exam)

Junior year–AP English 3, AP Physics B, AP US History, Honors Spanish 3, Honors Pre-Calc (5 on AP lang, 5 on APUSH, 4 on AP physics)

Senior year schedule: AP English 4, AP Chemistry, AP Econ/Gov, Honors Calc, Honors Spanish 4, AP Psychology

and that’s a basic outline. I also plan on starting my own club next year (a cooking club) and hopefully that helps as well.

Your classes, SAT score, and activities are pretty good but your GPA definitely leaves more to be desired. Even though you’ll have to apply with the GPA you have now, keep working hard your senior year to raise it! Make sure you have a standout essay and that you apply AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, and I think you’ll have a good chance at getting into Barrett! Good luck!

Unless Barrett is way more selective than when I got in (Fall 2009), I can’t imagine you would have a problem. Your GPA is not that low, and your test scores are above average. I assume you are not national merit, since you didn’t mention it? I admit, I am, which guarantees admission (they don’t officially say that, but it does). But otherwise you certainly seem like a good candidate, and I’d say your numbers are better than pretty good.

Yeah your stats and extracurriculars are better than mine and I hope to get in too.
As long as you write a good essay and have good letters of recommendation, I’m sure you’ll get in. I mean their 3.8, 3.9, or whatever the average is, is only an average so there should be some people higher and lower than that.

Not all schools with high average scores actually have most students with that score. Usually they’ll have a lot below and a lot above. I think you have a fantastic chance.

You’re definitely in. As an OOS student, I got into Barrett with a 3.41 unweighted gpa and 31 act.
