Barron's math much harder than CollegeBoard's!!!!

Hi everyone!

I am aiming for a perfect 2400 on the SAT or something close, so I have been practicing math sections for a while using the Barron's book.

Recently, I tried the math sections in College Board's Official SAT Study Guide [a.k.a. "the blue book"] and I found the math questions ** EXTREMELY ** easy and simple compared to Barron's.
I could solve many many questions mentally and very quickly, while in Barron's i scored a 10 out of 20 in the math section [25 minutes time limit]

So I got very confused, because i never did the REAL SAT before and I find a big gap between the level of Barron's math questions and those of CollegeBoard.
Even when I do Barron's math sections without time limits, i don't get a perfect score at all (minimum 3 mistakes), while in CollegeBoard, i find it possible to ace the math sections.

MY question:
-Which book offers questions of same difficulty and/or quality as the real SAT?

I know that CollegeBoard makes the real SAT but is it possible that it is as easy as the blue book?

NOTE:
I get nearly perfects score at school, so i wish to do the same in the SAT. Any advice to accomplish that would be very appreciated :)

Thanks for help.

College Board’s Blue Book is a much more accurate representation then Barron’s or any other 3rd party source.

Thanks for help, but did you do the SAT before? I mean are you sure that the blue book’s level is equal or close to that of the real SAT?

I think CB`s BB is easier than the real thing.Barrons is good for math - if you find if difficult ,solve the problems without time limitation - just get familiar with them

I read that CollegeBoard do not use SAT questions to test how much you studied. Rather, they test logical skills …etc But this does not mean that studying is not important, i am trying to say that only test makers are the ones who know how to make a SAT question.

So other companies might imitate them, but will their questions serve the purpose of CollegeBoard? Sometimes, I find Barron’s math questions ridiculously asked, for example, the grammar of the math question is wrong or not specific, which leads me to use false given values. I even found a mistake in one of the questions, I can’t get into the details but if you show it to any teacher in the world he would confirm.

I just do not want to end up wasting my time on very difficult questions that can never show up on the SAT. I am still confused: IS Barron’s math level similar to that of the real SAT? is it a bit harder? or MUCH harder? Is the blue book similar to real SAT or much easier?

Sorry if I bothered anyone but I am very confused.

Thanks

Which do you think is more accurate: a book by Barron’s or a test made by the creators of the SAT?

BTW.I think Princeton Review`s tests are pretty accurate and useful

I know that the CollegeBoard’s book is far more accurate than Barron’s, but my question is about the level of difficulty, [ i can not judge princeton’s review yet )

This will clarify:
-In the CollegeBoard book, the last few questions in math section (marked as HARD ) are SOMETIMES easier than Barron’s MEDIUM ones,

This led me to a state of confusion, because some of my friends told me that Barron’s questions present the level of difficulty of the REAL SAT.

While some others insisted that the level of real SAT is similar to that of CollegeBoard’s book.

So I am asking anyone who scored well on the real SAT, which book presents questions of difficulty close or similar to the real SAT???

Thanks

I find that sometimes it is good to use a more challenging book in combination with the official book (for the SAT and SAT subject tests). This way you will have seen a lot of different questions and will feel confident during the test.

The CB book practice tests contain many questions taken from actual SATs. The only way to get closer to the “correct” level of difficulty is via actual tests (two are available in PDF form for download). Barron’s (for SAT & SAT Subject) does tend to be quite a bit more difficult in overall level, which can be useful for some, not so much for others.

you got a perfect score on what kind of test? (was it by Princeton Review, Barrons, Kaplan, etc.)

I did find the math on the real test a bit harder than the BB math, but that could have just been my nerves. I would practice with both. If you learn to do well on harder stuff, the real test will seem much easier.

Thank you all for help.

I will print a test from CollegeBoard’s website and check its level.

And i think i will try to do many questions from both books to improve my level

Thank you again

I found the answer I was looking for in the well-known “Xiggi’s SAT prep advice”, here is the answer:

Summary:
No one knows how to make a test similar to the real one except for CB.
And if you read the rest of his advice, you will learn that these books [other than BB] are not completely useless, for they contain some useful tips and strategies.
But when practicing for the test, one should stick to ones provided by CB, and it is not a good idea to study hard questions that will never show up on the SAT.

Thank you all for help.

Collegeboard can’t afford to publish faulty questions on their test. I am positive that they spend a lot of resources to ensure that every question is air-tight, with absolutely no room for vagueness or uncertainty or interpretation. If they let a faulty question get on one of their tests it’d be a massive headache for them!!

Test prep book publishers aren’t nearly as accountable for mistakes, naturally they don’t sweat it as much. What you gonna do. This stuff is just practice fodder for the truly motivated who need more material beyond the Bluebook. Don’t take em too literally, meaning don’t expect the exact type of question on the real test. Try your best to solve em because it’s still practicing your reasoning skills.

This forum is great for asking about faulty questions so why not report when you suspect a skechy question and surely someone here can check it out for you and giving you a ruling!

Thanks for reply.

I am sure that college board make sure not to do the slightest mistake, because it will cause them a lot of problems.

I did most math practice questions [not practice tests], and I found all very easy except for two questions, which I could not solve because i forgot the rules. I will stick to Xiggi’s advice and examine my progress.

If the real SAT is as easy as the BB, I am sure I will get more than 750 easily.

This forum is great so I will seek help here whenever I need it.

Thanks again.
