I’ve been using Barrons to study for the U.S. History subject test, and boy has it made me feel stupid! The questions are so super specific. I’m glad to hear that its practice tests are usually harder than the actual.

One thing that bothers me about Barrons is that it is riddled with typos (missing commas, “the” instead of “that,” etc.). That may sound nit-picky, but it is kind of disheartening to pay for a prep book that seems to have been so carelessly put together. I also find that the format of the chapters makes it difficult to really grasp the material, especially when it comes to the overview of a period of time. The format does help when reviewing a specific concept or historical figure, though.

Overall, I have found Sparksnotes to be a lot more helpful. The material is better written, and the flow is a lot easier to follow.
