BART strike

they're striking starting monday.

how can i get from SFO to berkeley w/o BART? i know i can do embarcadero/transbay terminal to berkeley on F line but what about SFO to transbay terminal? preferably nothing more than $10-15.

walk. it’s free.
lol wait so none of the trains will run? shooooot I’ll operate for the day

Wow striking? I need to take the bart to get to berkeley! ***ffffffff o wow.

…man, I cannot understate how much this is going to suck. The Bay Bridge is going to be completely clogged with cars and freeway traffic is gonna be backed up for miles. I think you’re gonna need to take a taxi to the transbay terminal. Taking the F is also going to be a problem if you have luggage since I think the buses are going to be more full than usual.
So avoid peak hours if you can. It’s going to be a long day…
sure you can’t change your flight to Oakland Airport?

Any Bay Area Cal students who you trust? It might cost more than $15 but maybe if you have a friend in the Bay Area you could pay for gas + “a service fee.”

so what is actually closing down?

the BART trains will not be in service. However, they are some buses that will take people from station to station to perhaps catch other buses to take them to their destination. More info at bart.org.

Will the transbay buses (eg F) be packed come Monday?

Hey-STLY-can you change your SFO airline ticket-and fly into Oakland instead?

Are they striking the entire day?

…Maybe this is a dumb question, haha, but I need to bart back to Cal Monday afternoon. >_____<

If you are in the city/SF-you could always take the ferry into Oakland-nice ride/great views…

oakland isn’t much better b/c they’re stopping airbart while strike continues. and my flight’s cost would quadruple :(

i’m looking into caltrains/samtrans whatever those are…

i’m flying in on a weekend so i don’t think F line would be too packed (compared to weekdays). actransit says it will run more transbay lines to accommodate the strike. also there IS limited bart service. check on the website for that

i’m guessing they strike until they get what they want. the '97 strike lasted 6 days.

Here’s hoping it doesn’t last longer – or better yet, doesn’t happen at all. Striking into the opening weekends of school would be particularly horrific.

I would suggest looking into the BayPorter or a similar airport shuttle. They tend to cost $30-50, but if the difference is losing your flight altogether…

The buses will be slammed, so expect delays and lack of seat space, though the SF Chronicle says AC Transit and MUNI are taking precautions to smooth out the normal commute routes. Even if you’re driving, the bridges will be very busy and traffic is almost guaranteed.

Gooooood luck!

I don’t think they’re expecting to strike into labor day weekend b/c the bay bridge is closed then… but that’s like a month away.

Hey stly  511.org is your friend! It says you can take SamTrans KX Line for $4.50 from SFO to the Transbay Terminal, with the following luggage restrictions: “If a passenger can carry the item(s) on his/her lap or store it under or next to him/her on a seat unneeded and not hurt anyone else, and not interfere with others, the item is probably safe to transport.” The final decision will be made by the bus operator, who is responsible for the safe transport of everyone on the vehicle.

You’ll probably have to work out the details yourself on the website, but the parameters you’ll probably want are Fewest Transfers (saves money), Adult Fare (because you’re old), and Maximum Walking 1 Mile (again, saves money). Hope this helped!

According to the article, the provocation was a result in cost-reduction of Bart employee contracts in addition to shifting around job assignments.

Tips for Coping with the BART Strike Set to Begin Sunday the 16th at Midnight

If you are a commuter in the Bay Area there is a big chance your travel routine will be upset in the coming days. Review the following tips to help you manage this inconvenience.

* If you currently use a Park-and-Ride lot, arrive early and have a contingency plan in case it is full.

 • Consider carpooling or telecommuting–roads will most likely be very congested, and other transit operators have very limited capability to expand service. Click here to join a carpool: 511.org - Your Bay Area travel guide.

 • If carpooling or telecommuting are not options, consider adjusting your work hours (leave early or stay late), allowing extra time for your trip, or even avoiding getting on the roadway altogether.

 • If you do decide to drive, stay up-to-date on current traffic conditions, construction events, and driving times by using the interactive Traffic and Driving Times map at: 511.org - Your Bay Area travel guide and 511.org – Traffic: Traffic Map with Driving Times or by calling 511 (when connected say either “traffic conditions” or “driving times” from the main menu). When driving you should expect extended metering light hours on bridges and on-ramps, longer travel times, and heavy traffic.

 • In the event of a strike, BART will provide limited charter bus service between East Bay BART stations and downtown San Francisco for more information on this service visit BART - Official updates and options in the event of a BART strike

Thanks Applejuice - I found out that samtran may avoid stops at BART stations - i hope this doesn’t apply to SFO b/c it’s not JUST a bart station…

The bridge is going to be packed with cars.

when do you guys think the Bart will be back up and running again?
