about bart...

how much are tickets? (one way to oakland) does 2.35 sound about right?
2) what's the bus that also goes to the airport other than airbart? (how much is airbart by the way?)

about 2.35 one way. 2.30 something like that…
3 dollar for airbart. Exact chang.e

would it be better to just take the ac transit bus? it’s free after all with our pass yeah?

Where in Oakland? It’s a huge city.

If you’re talking about Chinatown, anywhere from Downtown Berkeley down to 12th St (Oakland Chinatown) is $1.75.

If you’re talking about the airport, it’s $2.35. However, the BART station is actually approximately 2mi away from the airport - two major overpasses and a bridge (I’ve biked there). You can take the AC Transit 50 (headed towards Fruitvale), and it’ll stop right at the airport. It has approximately 5 intermediate stops, unlike AirBART, but hey, it’s free!

Yes, you can take the bus to the airport, but it’s much slower and unless you take the less obvious route, you’re going straight thru the worst part of town. I’m surprised that I’ve done it a few times and have lived to write this post (although I did get robbed once). Don’t take 1/1R + 50.

The less obvious route is to take the 51 thru Alameda until you reach Otis. Then, take the 50 towards Bayfair/Eastmont to approach the airport from the far end of Bay Farm island. This route make take you a total of more than 1hr, but at least it goes thru nice parts of town with awesome scenery.

Personally though, the route I use really depends on what I feel like. I really hate getting frisked by the TSA, so I avoid flying if at all practical. I do go to the airport just to see planes though. As for the tickets - I just find a cheap high-value BART ticket on Craigslist (be sure to verify with a station agent at time of transaction to prevent fraud), and use the ticket willy nilly. Just like all buses, you will need exact change for the AirBART (or a ticket >= $3); it’s a ripoff though unless you have lots of luggage.
