Baruch vs University of Maryland

Just wanted to hear some thoughts on the subject.

I am a current student at the University of Maryland at college park and am contemplating transferring to Baruch.

Reasons:
1)I am a NYS resident and the tuition would be much cheaper.
2)Maryland's grading system tends to leave me at a disadvantage, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the grading system here, any A is a 4.0, any B is a 3.0 and any C is a 2.0. Plus and minus signs are not calculated into your GPA. This can be an advantage for some and a disadvantage for other. Three b+'s and one C+ equates to a 2.75 gpa....not very pretty.
3) Im working my ass off here literary sleeping in the library some nights and only have a 3.0 GPA.

Main concerns: My current major is Economics with a Minor is Mathematical Statistics. How much easier on a scale of 1-10 would Baruch be in the same majors? Also I plan on going to Grad school for Econ and want to know if baruch would lower my chances of getting into a decent program. I also am not to thrilled with the employers who come to job fairs at UMD as there are very few from NYC and this is ultimately where I want to work. I think Baruch seems like a better option for me.

Any input appreciated.

TIA

Come on people....Am I posting in the wrong section or what?

If you don't mind to commute everyday and leave the college-life-in-UM, then transfer to Baruch. It's cheaper, it isn't that hard (to transfer and I suspect to get 3.0), and the job opportunities is better.

From what I was told when I visited 3.0 is the absolute minimum you can have to apply to Baruch.

I think that relevant coursework is taken into consideration when looking at a GPA. Nevertheless Im not worried about admissions as I have been accepted. The commute would definitely become a burden sooner than later. Im going to schedule an appointment with an admissions councilor once I wrap up finals here at Maryland.

I think transferring to Baruch would be a good choice regardless of the commute. You'll save money and you will probably have an easier time. Of course, if you want to get a good job afterwards you will need to do extremely well at Baruch. Getting an internship once your back in NYC will also help you out a whole lot. But I think an easier workload + NYC location easily outweighs the benefits of UMD

hi, since we're discussing about transferting to baruch, I have a similar question. I have a hard time choosing bwteen Baruch or IU-Bloomington (Kelley Business School).

Cost:
Baruch: roughly $25,000/year (i'm an international student)
IU: $40,000/year

Location:
NYC vs. the-small-college-town-Bloomington, Indiana

College life:
daily commute, few clubs vs. dorms, huge student body, sport teams, tons of international students, etc, etc

Rank:
well known only in NYC vs. USNews rank; nationally well known

My main question: would it be worth it to spend $40,000/year in IU? Would IU gives me better job/internship opportunitites?

any suggestions welcome. Thanks.
