Based on my stats, which UC?

I really REALLY want to get into a UC. The downside is that I just RECENTLY decided I really really want to get into a UC. So here are my stats, based off a steep climb up from my hilariously bad freshman year.

Current School: a southern california community college(I'm trying to get out of southern california as much as possible, fyi)
GPA: 3.1(hopefully will turn into a 3.4 by the time I transfer in Spring)
Major: English Lit(3.8 in my major prep classes)
EC's: President and founder of Creative Writing Club, Secretary and Treasurer for the Theatre Guild club, joining Alpha Gamma Sigma this semester, Environment club, GSA, Amnesty Club, Leo Club. Been heavily involved in the performing arts(acting and choir), and will be volunteering under the STAR program this fall.

The schools I REALLY want to get into are UCSC(I'm TAGing it) and UCSB. The only three UC's I don't even want to bother with are Riverside, Irvine, and San Diego. Even Merced I'd be ok with! What do you think my chances are of getting into any of the UC's, more specifically UCSC and UCSB? Do you believe I should give the honest reason why my freshman year was so awful in my personal statement - despite it being super personal - and do you believe that would improve my chances?

To better you chances, you need a higher gpa. As for your sob story, be careful how you write it. Admission committees get loads of sad stories; however it doesn’t always matter. There are hundreds of applicants in similar cases and sometimes, worse and their gpa may be better. A bad year shouldn’t be used an excuse, but a stepping stone on how you did better etc… It should be used a story of triumph, not a rant.

I’m also an American Lit major, and fortunately for us, it’s not a high demand major, so your GPA does not have to be stellar. UCLA’s average GPA last year for accepted lit majors was 3.46, so I can only assume that most other UC’s will be around the same, or slightly lower. But I have no facts to support that. You can also just call lit departments and ask what the average GPA’s accepted was last year.
