Based solely on GPA right now, am I on the right path to get into UNC Chapel Hill out

Based solely on GPA right now, am I on the right path to get into UNC Chapel Hill out of state?
First of all, I know that GPA is only one determining factor in college admission, but just assume that my extracurriculars and SAT scores correlate closely with my GPA (i.e. no one factor has a significant advantage/disadvantage to my admission) b/c my extracurriculars do and my PSAT scores almost do, but after studying this upcoming summer, I think I'll be able to get in the 2000+ range on the actual SAT

Honors lit- 97.12%, 104.12% weighted
AP environmental science- 95.55%, 102.55% weighted
Honors Precal- 91.98%, 98.98% weighted
Honors Chem- 98.49%, 105.49% weighted
AP world history- 92.75%, 99.75% weighted
Honors Spanish- 94.74%, 101.74% weighted

unweighted avg-- 95.11%, weighted avg-- 102.11%

These are my semester 1 sophomore grades... I have my freshman ones too somewhere in my house, but am too lazy to find them. I know that I am only a sophomore, but assuming that I take tons of APs and maintain my work ethic, then what are my chances?

Yes - you are on the right path, however you should not take as many APs as you think you should. College cares WAY more if you get an A in an honors class than a B in an AP - trust me. Your unweighted GPA is a vital factor in your admission decision

You’re definitely on the right path. But … are you in/out of state? If you get a 2000+ on the SAT and maintain your current grades, you’ll be fine. I’m a North Carolinian with 6+ alumni relatives, and many of my friends are attending Chapel Hill/will attend. It’s a great school, and I know quite a bit about it.

i’m out of state, from GA. Since you know so much about the school, do you have any recommendations for specific clubs/positions/extracurricular that they typically look for

bump!!!

<<if you="" get="" a="" 2000+="" on="" the="" sat="" and="" maintain="" your="" current="" grades,="" you’ll="" be="" fine.="">></if>

Sorry this is not true for an OOS applicant. OOS stats have to be MUCH higher than those for instate students.

For example: my neice had a similar GPA (over 4.0) and 2200+ SAT two years ago, applied EA, was deferred, then waitlisted, then never got off the waitlist. Now a sophomore at Clemson.

bump again :)

I have to politely disagree. My brother’s room-mate at UNC received grades of around a 3.7 GPA, and had a 2000+ SAT scores - he was coming from Texas. I mean, that’s just an example. College admissions everywhere are complicated. There are many more facets to them than GPA and SAT scores.

My dad also went to UNC Chapel Hill from Michigan with a GPA lower than a 4.0. (not entirely sure of his stats).

sugarandspice25, make sure to get involved with extracurriculars, and keep grades & SAT scores. If you do all that, you should have a fairly good chance of admittance.

bump a third!! tehe

bump!!!
