Hi everyone :)

I just got taken off the wait list to transfer to Bates for this fall, and I was wondering if anyone knows any people who have transferred there, or if there’s any kind of program so that people transfering don’t feel weird about being somewhere where everyone already knows each other? Right now, I’m at one of the seven sisters schools, and I love it and the people are amazing, but I just… am missing being around goofy guys :)…I’d also be playing for the tennis team there- are any of you guys tennis players? I’m visiting Thursday to see Lewiston and all (I think everyone will be gone by then?), and then I have to decide by that afternoon…eek!

Thanks so much,
Karen

Well, I'm not a student-- but no one replied and you are visiting to tomorrow so I thought I would say something. My sister goes there. She actually made really good friends with a transfer from Columbia, my sister did mention how she was having trouble fitting in, but who knows what the situation was. Sorry I'm not helping at all. I just know it's a really cool and laid back school and that it sounds like a lot of fun. Professors seem awesome and there is a lot of opportunity to get involved outside the college. Oh, you probably will hate Lewiston if you go driving around, it's pretty rundown and ugly. The campus is like a whole other world, it's really nice there. People who go there should post something! Good luck with you decision.

I transferred in last year. I love it here; couldn't be happier. At first, I felt like I was in a weird position socially, and ended up meeting lots of freshmen (since they're all new you naturally tend to hang out with them), but that improved. Now I'm friends with lots of students from my own class, which is nice, because I've found that they're pretty accepting of new people.

The college did a great job of trying to help us fit in. There were special orientation events just for transfer students, and they stick us together in housing clusters in various places. I'd definitely say that I wouldnt' be happier anywhere else, and that as I finish up my first year here, it only gets better.

Oh yeah, the tennis team is really good. 2 people this year are going to the NCAA finals.
