Baylor College of Medicine
Houston, TX

$19,650 (full-time)

Bayer ranked 18 according to USA news, and full time tuition is $19,650

I’m starting to work on the baylor 2 baylor medical track scholarship application, and I was wondering, is this the only application required for the medical program? or is there a separate application to the medical school itself? the questions seem pretty broad, and there isn’t a specific question about why I want to do the baylor/baylor med program. Also, since there isn’t any word limit, how long do you guys suggest for each question?

My daughter will get interviewed in Jan 31st by Baylor-to-Baylor program. Does anybody know the interview schedule and questions in previous years ?

Here is a sample schedule of the events of the day (1/31/2014, Friday):
8:00 a.m. — Check-In
8:15 a.m. — Opening Session
9:00 a.m. & 1:30 p.m. — Pre-Med Overview
This one-hour session will offer you and your parents a bird’s eye view of how the typical Baylor student makes the transition from Baylor pre-med to medical school.
10:30 a.m. & 2:30 p.m. — Campus Tours
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. — Lunch on campus/mixer with Baylor students
11:00 a.m. & 1:30 p.m. — Financial Aid Information Session
3:00–4:00 p.m. — Dr Pepper Hour and Baylor to Baylor Student Panel with Dr. Sanker
Ask questions to students who are currently enrolled in Baylor’s Pre-Med program and students who won the B2B Medical Guaranteed Acceptance

i thought the baylor2baylor event was pretty well planned and the program has done well in being led by dr. sanker–certainly one of the most animated and interesting program directors that i’ve met so far!
what did you guys think?
i was a bit surprised by the sheer number of students though! 120 is a lot!
and it’s somewhat frustrating that they would essentially require students to fly to texas twice if they make it as finalists to interview with baylor college of medicine.

@GreenSage, research experience is one of the top requirements for this program. I have heard that people get in without much, but they tend to have almost perfect SAT scores in place of lots of research. Honestly, I feel that research played a large factor in my acceptance, since my SAT scores were not that great.

@DxSnake what year of the Baylor2Baylor program are you in?(:

for the benefit of future applicants to the program:

in general, the baylor2baylor activities seemed to strongly emphasize the willingness of a student to step out of his/her own comfort zone and talk to existing b2b students or faculty members, and the format of the event didn’t seem to facilitate easy conversation between us the prospective students and the people already there at baylor. in addition to that, i felt like the activities didn’t make it easy for prospective students to meet one another–though the lunch event helped a little bit with that.
dr. richard sanker (direct of the prehealth program at baylor + the baylor2baylor program) was very interesting and he made a lot of jokes and other good points about students and our capacity to succeed regardless of whether accepted into b2b.
there were a few classes that they allowed for us to sit-in on, and i thought the campus tour was interesting because instead of walking around campus, they drove us in a little bus/golf carts.
the dr. pepper hour at the end of the day was more insightful, and it was certainly a great opportunity to get questions answered about the university and program.
they also strongly emphasized baylor’s honors, BIC, and university scholars programs, and if anyone has questions about the difference between those in the future, feel free to msg me.
i think the biggest reason that i felt a disconnect while at baylor was that in comparison to other some other similar college visits/BS-MD interview events, we as prospective students didnt stay overnight in the dorm of a baylor student. normally i would consider myself fairly sociable, but this event made it awkward in my opinion, and i tended to hang out with my dad more while on campus–we went to the financial aid presentation together, campus tour, pre-med presentation, etc. lunch was a special prospective-student only event, so i went and met some other applicants and we talked for a while, but then i had my interview in the afternoon (when the prospective students i met at lunch had already interviewed) so we split and i explored campus more with my dad.

also, it should be strongly noted that a vast majority of the applicants for the B2B program seemed to be texas residents, but i dont think that necessarily impacts the committee’s decision on who is eventually selected to interview with baylor college of medicine (BCM) (which is in houston, not waco, texas, for those who didn’t realize that). (15-20 students will get an interview invitation, and 6 students are ultimately selected by BCM).

does anyone know when the next round of interview notifications go out? :)

Rice/Baylor web-site points to March interview notices for April interviews and it appears Baylor MED dictates the Baylor/Baylor process also

@dumich Thanks for the info and good luck! :)
