BB Edition 1 pg 90 #2

I need help with #2 on page 90 of the BB. I answered B, but the answer is E. Can somebody please read lines 22-31 of the passage and please help me understand why the answer is E for #2? I'd greatly appreciate it since I'm absolutely stumped on this question.

The answer isn’t B because fear of the Russians was popular opinion. It is implied that the press would support it, and it is implied nowhere that the press supports labor parties in trials, or in general.

The answer is E because in this paragraph, Mr. Darrow discusses how millions of people throughout the ages have been convicted for reasons of fear and prejudice. To convinct these twenty men in a labor union is to show that America is not a unique country of freedoms but rather “like all the rest [of the countries that persecuted people unfairly]”. Therefore, it is implied that if these twenty men were convicted, many others would be as well.

The answer is not A because obviously these men would be harmed if convicted.

The answer is not C because it says in the introduction that Mr. Darrow fought against prejudice. He is anything but apathetic.

The answer is not D because nowhere are finances mentioned.

I hope this helped. (:

Thanks  Didn’t really expect anyone to reply.

I’m a Jew on Christmas, so I have no obligations. :stuck_out_tongue: No problem. Good luck on your question for a good SAT score!
