BC 2020 Likely Letter

Hi everyone! I was wondering if BC sent out likely letters for its EA applicants… and if they do, when are they usually sent out?

We do not send out likely letters. All Early Action applicants will receive their decision via e-mail before Christmas.

@DevlinHall208 Thank you for your quick reply!

Also, I’m just a tad confused. On the Agora Portal, it says the decisions will be sent through the mail, yet on the Admissions website for BC, on the Decision Notification page, it says decisions will be emailed. So will it be through email?

@physicsfan7 - Correct, all decisions will be sent via e-mail. All admitted students with U.S. home addresses will then receive an acceptance packet within the week following the decision.

But does Boston College offer likely letters to recruited athletes, applying regular decision?

@Kahlua610 - For recruited athletes, yes we do. We recommend talking to the coach of your specific sport.

Would international students also receive the packet? I live in Taiwan, so I’m not sure how long it typically takes the shipping.

@dramalce - If you are asking if international students receive a traditional acceptance packet in the mail, the answer is no. Over the years, the vast majority of mailed packets never actually reached their international addresses. You can find all the same information in the links provided in your acceptance letters.

@DevlinHall208 is there a specific date that likely letters come out? do all coaches issue them?

@mjc903 - No, not all coaches issue them. It is sport-by-sport, and there is no specific send date. It is important to contact the coach with whom you have been communicating.

@DevlinHall208:
When an applicant receives a “likely letter”, what conclusion can they make from it?

  • Can they conclude they are definitely accepted?
  • Can they conclude they will be definitely accepted if they don’t get arrested or fail their last semester?
  • Can they conclude there is a higher level of interest, but nothing is guaranteed?

Thank you.

@jpm50

A likely letter is a tool used when a sport does not use national letters of intent. Thus, a likely letter is a gesture of good faith from the coach that indicates s/he has communicated with our office and, as long as both academics remain strong and unchanged, and discipline does not become an issue, the student will be admitted as a recruited athlete.

Thank you.
