I am applying to:
WUSTL
CMU
NYU
Boston College
Boston University
University of Rochester
Babson College
Villanova University
Indiana University - Bloomington
Syracuse University
American University
**only applied to business program

It depends on your school and if they are known to the colleges as rigorous programs. My guess is that the first 4 schools may take a pass. I know NYU is particularly strict with gpa. They may let in someone with a lower SAT if they are top students, but the other way around is not their thing.

Eh...
WUSTL - reach/match?
CMU - reach
NYU - reach
Boston College - reach
Boston University - match...i think they emphasize test scores
University of Rochester - match
Babson College - reach/match
Villanova University - match
Indiana University - Bloomington - match/safety
Syracuse University - match
American University - dunno

Your GPA is weak...it might bite you in the rear ;) but you'll be fine, good luck

I think yours is the most unpredictable kind of situation. High SAT and the gpa that doesn't match. My S had this situation, tho gpa higher, and it was very hard to decide what was a match, reach, etc. His acceptances came in seemingly randomly so that's why I think yours is so hard to predict. You have to cover all bases. On the plus side some schools don't give as much credence to freshman grades.

I'd say your mix of schools is good given this unpredictability. Who knows you could get in any of them. Realistically, i agree with others that WashU esp is a reach, same for CMU, NYU, BC, possibly Rochester. Oddly, Villanova can be tricky, but I'd think your chances are good there and BU, IU, SU, AU, no idea about Babson.

48% you say. Well, an 83 average in honors and AP classes indicates that you are intelligent. However, this evokes some doubts about the academic reputation of your school - if so many people do better than classes must be easy. So apparently you kind of slacked off. By getting a 1510 (same score as me by the way) you have already clinched your spot in most of those schools. Considering your essay, recs, and EC's and all that stuff is good, you are a match or safety for all of them probably except for NYU and WUSTL. Don't know what CMU is though.

That would be nice if your SAT score alone clinched a spot in most of these schools. Not true of course. Well at least you aren't in the bottom half.

The problem is schools like NYU, CMU, Wash U take a good 70% of their class from the top 10% of high school class, prob a good 90% I'm guessing are in the top 20% and virtually all are in the top half. I think your SATs give you a boost but is it enough. So I think your diverse (selectivity-wise) list is good.

when i first saw your avg and SAT score, i thought you were from Canada. b/c anything above an 80% in "non-private and model schools" is in the top 15%.
but then when i saw your rank, i am very iffy about your chances. but i think colleges'll like you, b/c you are a good test taker (obviously)

what would be the case for the opposite of him? highest gpa, hardest classes, great ecs. but awful sat 1s by awwful i mean awfulllll... do u think the sat 1 will hurt me too much? also im intel... so if i take the tfl and do good would that help "hide" my embaressing sat score?

awful? Like 800 combined? I don't know dude, that would be an off situation, and I pretty sure the colleges will want to talk to you about what happened with the SAT's

no awful as in 1210...but im retaking the new sat possibly..meaning most prolly...itll go even worse...eh well maybe this can be my weak point i mean im taking IB eng A1 HL and i have an A equivelent and my teacher thinks ill get a 7 on the ib exam and i get a 690 on the verbal...tht sux

elodie- it depends on what level of school you're looking at

wassupman- you are in a special situation but I don't think you have to worry. You'll get in some of your schools, it's a sensible list. I would work hard the rest of the year, since you have a chance to make wait-lists and they may want to see past your midyear grades.

Also your midyear is practically 90 even with the 65 (tennis? what's with that), so you are showing you can do it.

In spite of the class rank, I can't imagine some of the less selective schools on your list passing on someone with a 1510. For instance I don't think many 1500+SAT kids are at American or Syracuse; I think they and others would have trouble saying no to you.
