The good news is my daughter got into BC today! But I can’t for the life of me locate the financial aid package. I followe their directions but just can’t find it! IT shouldn’t be rocket science! What am I doing wrong? Anyone out there who got into BC, can you give me advice!!
Congratulations!!
The financial aid awards will not be on the portal until Monday.
We can’t even get our financial aid application to be processed. They told us four months after we sent it in that they are missing documents. I can’t imagine how this is run
Karen:
once you send in whatever is “missing”, you can e-mail Student Services and ask if they have received that document(s). Assuming that there is no blizzard, BC will generally get back to you in a day or so. And while the portal may not yet be updated, Services can let you know that the doc has been received.

No its not, but BC’s Agora system is antiquated. Never fear, however, bcos it does work well. Moreover, instead of pumping a bunch of money to upgrade a system used 2x per year (for admissions), BC puts plenty of money elsewhere in IT. All the important stuff (course registration, grades, graduation progress), works well.
Congrats to the new Eagles.
thanks! I called on Friday and they told me this. Here’s hoping it’s early tomorrow!!
My S was accepted and was checking the portal for FA award notification. Didn’t check before, but only see a Conditional award for like only a few $$$. Hopefully it gets updated later today or will have a very difficult decision.
To release admit decisions without FA information in cruel. A lot of happy accepted students will be disappointed if BC is not affordable. Other colleges release admit and FA at he same time.
I understand that Boston College meets 100% of financial need based on both FASFA and their institutional formula, however I am very confused with my award. My family EFC is around $20,000 and I was given $6,000 in awards. As much as I would like to attend my top choice school, this financial aid package has made Boston College completely unaffordable and an unrealistic option for me. I would just like to ask for an explanation so that I may understand…
Same here rcofinco…subsidized loan and work study for $6k combined, though my EFC is more like $27k I think. Will try calling later but figured the phone lines will be jammed.
Is that a FAFSA number? If so, its not relevant to colleges that use Profile/institutional formulas.
Did you run the NPC? How does your FA award compare to that calculated by the NPC?
btw: yes, BC meets 100% of need as they calculate it. The one big thing that differs from FAFSA is home equity. Fafsa excludes home equity, whereas colleges that use Profile/institutional formula include home equity as an asset in its calculation of need.
So, the solution is to hold all admission decisions until financial aid awards have been calculated?
@Woljoe that’s exactly what I received. I’m hoping that later there is an update in the FA portal with funds from the school.
Problem is the email notification was received today and the following the link shows the 6k. Not like my house is anywhere near paid off or is a fancy one either.
@bluebayou Yes, many schools do. Otherwise hopes are raised then dashed if unaffordable.
In my children’s combined college admission experience, I would say that more don’t let you know at the time than do. With my older son, I don’t think any school gave him his financial packet at the same time as admission. My youngest was accepted EA at a school which still hasn’t given financial packet (since December).
okay, me too guys. only receiving 6k in loan + work study. my EFC is higher than you guys, around 40k, but this is still much less than other colleges have been calculating & none of it is straight financial aid. hoping it gets updated or corrected at some point?
If I have not yet received a financial award notification but have an ECF of around $32,000, should I worry about whether financial aid decisions are still coming?
Just checked my fin aid, it is awfully low. Even lower than the NPC that we were prepared to pay. What a disappointment! Unless it changes, no way my parents can afford this. Specially, when I got a 100% tuition scholarship as an OOS student to a Big Ten school.
My son’s portal is still missing any financial aid information.
