BC or GWU?

I got accepted to both BC and GWU for psychology (neuroscience concentration if applicable). I'm having a hard time deciding which one to choose because GW has a lot of internship opportunities and plus, i heard if you do well during your undergrad, it will help a lot when you apply to GW med school (like.. not taking MCAT or w/e). But BC has a lot of different concentrations in psychology, few of which are specifically based on neuroscience.
Also, I have heard that both BC and GW have good location, good social life, good professors, good college experience.. etc. It all seems hard for me to decide right now.

Right now, I'm leaning toward GW because i got into the honors program and plus they gave me the scholarship + award which amount to about 35.5 grand. I haven't heard from BC's financial aid and scholarship stuff because I am missing couple financial forms for them. So, I am not really counting the money as a factor right now.

Please, any inputs would be awesome! Tell me which college is better for me in what aspect and why. They are both really good colleges and its seems hard to turn down either one.

GW has a concentration in cognitive neuroscience. Here’s the Psych dept website: [Department of Psychology | The George Washington University](<a href=“Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences | Columbian College of Arts & Sciences | The George Washington University”>Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences | Columbian College of Arts & Sciences | The George Washington University)

Only you can make this decision. I suggest you go to both schools’ April visits, and talk to a student/professor in the psych department at each school. Good luck!

ty for the input. wow i never found out about the cognitive neuroscience concentration. thx! i already visited GW back in October, and im planning to visit BC in april. I dont know if i should bother visiting GW again in april. I guess it wouldn’t really hurt to go back there again.

Well, I doubt going to BC for its prettier campus or anything beats giving up your spot at GW with a scholarship and honors program acceptance…it’s not like BC’s waay to prestigious that you can’t turn it down…

GW prob would have better intership ops being right in the city as opposed to BC which is in an area outside of Boston…idk though…

Sounds like GW has more pros than BC does, but go with your gut.

Were you ED? Did you get honors info recently? I have friends at BC and the two schools feel completely different to me. Campus vs city. Diversity different too. BC felt conservative to me (from west coast). I just liked the whole environment better at GW.

PS: and I’m Catholic too

To CoffeeAddict9716: Oh yeah, i know what you are saying. It looks like GW has a lot more opportunities to offer to me than BC, but then i dont want to make that assumption because i havent visited BC yet. And also, it is true that BC is not way prestigious that I can’t turn it down, but nevertheless, it is hard for me apparently lol. Never thought i would come to the point where i would consider turning BC down. Thx for the input!

To nbg127: No I did not apply ED. I was considering it but, the money got in the way :frowning: Well at least i got in anyway  Uh, yeah two schools are totality different because one has a campus and the other one doesn’t. But from what i saw and heard, they both have very good locations so I doubt location would impact me as much in deciding which one to go. I would love to see a lot of diversity in college, but its not a huge deal for me if there isnt much, because i am from a catholic high school, so i am used to not seeing much diversity at all. Yeah GW seems to be better, looking at the diversity side. Thx for the input!

I’ve actually been to BC a few times to visit friends, and it seems to me that BC and GW have VERY different atmospheres. Others might disagree with me, but it seemed like the party scene at BC was much more intense than the one at GW. The BC people I met were going out at least 4 nights per week, and all of their parties (even in non-greek houses) had a “frat party” vibe. Of course people go at GW, but I feel like at most the average student goes out only on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 1 or 2 nights per week is actually more of the norm. GW students also seem to spend far more time out in the city, probably because BC is kind of removed from downtown Boston.

So, in sum, you should definitely visit BC and see how you like it. Aside from scholarships/financial aid, I think since both schools are really great academically, it will come down to whether you’d prefer to be in a city, and what kind of vibe you’d prefer on campus.

Oh yeah, i have heard that before in BC. Frankly, I dont mind those kind of parties, but going out at least 4 nights per week does sound intense. Looks like GW and BC have pretty solid social life, which is good. I heard that it was easy to get to Boston from BC, (of course not as easy as GW to DC lol), so I dont think i would have much problems going out to the cities if i do end up going to BC.
One thing i really do like about GWU is the “dual campuses” of Mount Vernon and Foggy Bottom. Like, you can go out to the cities for the night taking the shuttle bus, and then if you feel like you need to take a break from the metropolitan areas, you just take the shuttle bus back to the Mount Vernon campus, which has that suburban/campus feeling.
Looks like I really have to visit BC to figure all this out! Thx for the input!

Actually, being from Boston and knowing BC fairly well, I think you have a hard choice. I also got accepted to BC but the only reason I’m going to GWU vs BC is because it doesn’t seem like BC is going to give me enough money and BC is too much of the same for me. People from Boston don’t necessarily realize how big BC is. It’s an amazing school. It has a beautiful campus, great professors, great reputation, and a really good social scene. School spirit there is INTENSE, completely opposite of the feel I got from GW.
However, BC is not very diverse. Boston is also a great location. There are alot of jobs and opportunities there too, especially in terms of the sciences/ medical field, since we’re practically the hub for that. Boston also has alot more to offer besides academics. Its a city enriched with culture, awesome concerts pass through there, we have the best sports teams in the nation!!!, plays, dance, etc. So really consider what the college and the location has to provide you all around.

I didn’t choose it also because it’s not great in my major, IR- which GW is known for.

Again its your decision. I don’t know how good it is in terms of what you want to study but just keep in mind that both are really good options. Best of luck in your decision.
