I have just been accepted in Boston College and The College of New Jersey... I have received full tuition and have been accepted into the honors program at TCNJ... Can anyone lend some advise as to what college should be my choice

Boston College is a better overall school but it depends on what you want

Well it really depends on what your finances are. If your family can afford BC or you don't mind working your way through school (and that's easier said than done) then I would go to BC because it really does have a great academic program to back up its reputation. TCNJ (I was accepted but won't be attending) is a fine but I felt it was over-hyped and too new (it was Trenton State just fifteen years ago) but if money is a serious consideration or you'll end up so indebted that you can't go to grad school (if that's what you want to do) than TCNJ isn't a bad second choice at all.

What you want to study, what you want to do, where you want to do it, what your family financial situation is -- these and more are factors that need to be considered in making your decision.

I'm in the camp that the financial factors should be given more consideration than most people seem to give them. TCNJ is a very good school and you will get a very good education for $0. BC is also a very good school and you will get a very good education for $200K. TCNJ is the better value. BC is not $200K better.

Good luck!

TCNJ is a great school that pretty much no one knows about outside of NJ and maybe parts of NY. i think i can provide some insight considering im from NJ, my counsin and brother both have full scholarships to TCNJ, and i go to BC.

it really matters what youre going into. if its business and youve been accepted to CSOM and the business school at TCNJ, i would definetly say BC because of the alumni network and the highly ranked bus school here.

however, if you are doing the sciences i would say almost definetly go to TCNJ. my brother was premed and my cousin is bio major also. from what ive heard, TCNJ is great for the sciences and sends tons of kids off to top med schools. my brother couldve gone to a "better" school for the sciences but he took the fullride and now my parents are paying for med school. me, i didnt even apply to TCNJ because i knew i was likely to get a full ride and i didnt want that to make me go there.

if you want engineering, definetly go TCNJ.. BC doesnt have engineering. also for teaching.. if you want to stay in the state of NJ and teach it would definetly make sense to go there because paying that much to be a teacher isnt that logical. plus TCNJ is VERY respected instate for teaching. matters how much money BC is giving you in finaid also. i personally would justify paying $20k/year at BC in your situation (more if it was business and your family can afford it).

theyre both fun and great schools but DEFINETLY different. BC you have boston, TCNJ ewing/trenton, off campus is DEAD. most of the parties from freshman year onward are offcampus or frathouses drinking in someones basement, you have to know that. BC we have the major DI sports and at TCNJ i know freshman go to the games sometime but noone really cares. both campuses are beautiful in a different way and the weather is more bearable at TCNJ.

any other questions id be glad to help. like i said.. i go to BC and my brother/cousin have full rides at TCNJ. best friend is also a freshman at TCNJ and my last year english teacher (highly ranked public HS in NJ) is a recent grad of TCNJ also.
