BC or UCLA?

I didn’t know too much about Boston College when I first applied, and did basically apply as a whim. I visited UCLA yesterday, didn’t fall in love with it, but did like it. It was pretty big. I might have to get used to walking. Overall, I could see myself at UCLA. On the other hand, I’ve never visited BC and will not be able to in the future. Has anyone had to choose between the two? Anyone have any advice?

i would choose ucla, better school, better weather

ucla is unreal man. when its 12 degrees in boston in january you can be wearing shorts and going to a crazy good school. ucla is the real deal

is ucla truly better (in prestige) than bc? i totally don't know

according to US News ranking, UCLA is much better than BC. and personally (i am from Boston), I like LA much better than boston, even though i've never been LA before. BC is a jesuit school and the campus is not that gorgeous and it's at the edge of the city, so kind of rural. The weather in New England is crazy, super cold in winter, extremely hot in summer. i hate the weather of boston. But the city of Boston is a nice city, medium size, with a huge population of college students, safe, and overall good for a peaceful college life.

BC is a great school, and continues to move up. The campus is actually beautiful--many people have mentioned it in the thread about beautiful campuses--very gothic in architecture on the main part of the campus, and lots of space, plus they have just bought another huge piece of property. It is not rural, it is right on the T line on Commonwealth Avenue just as it moves into the suburbs. You have the best of both worlds--you are in a very safe area with lots of trees and less congestion (if any part of Boston can be considered less congested) but can get anywhere in the city of Boston very quickly and inexpensively! No need for a car.

Yes, the weather in the winter can be cold and snowy, so if that is something that you hate, it will be a factor in your decision. And yes, it is Jesuit, but there are students of all faiths, nationalities and backgrounds and there is a real commitment to community service, which only adds to the spirit on the campus.

You need to find out from each school what they offer in your area of interest, and see how those stack up against each other. Also, the UC's are going to continue to have financial difficulty with the state funding, and it is something to also consider in your decision.

Good luck!

I'm in the same situation. I am going to enroll at either UCLA or BC...but I can't decide which one. I live about 30-40 minutes away from UCLA and it's beautiful, but I always wanted to experience the east coast and I hear such good things about Boston. I'm going to visit this weekend so we'll see...good luck choosing I know it's tough!
