BC vs Case vs SUNY bing/stony

I'm having trouble deciding between these four schools..
Taking into account horrible fin aid due to my efc... and the fact that it is a factor I'm leaning towards stony brook for a bio major with a high likelihood I'll be headed for med school...

Then there's always the off chance I'll switch back to marketing and be completely in the wrong school as stony is especially weak in business and its only strengths lay in science and math.

Case seems to be the overall best option, but as a NYC resident and my love of a social life, I've heard Case isn't exactly the best option out of the four.
BC I've heard many good things about, but the over 45k cost I'm left with is a huge factor considering I've heard the school is somewhat overrated for the cost.
Stony is very affordable...teaching hospital on campus, and I get priority class selection and my own advisor. Not to mention I don't mind how empty the school is on weekends considering I love the city and would rather return there for two days a week.
Bing is left for last as it is more money than the other SUNY, is not as strong in medicine, and its location renders internships and job opportunities outside of campus seemingly impossible.

Well this post has been kind of all over the place, but if anyone could give me any input it would be greatly appreciated. My main concern is that despite people telling me undergrad doesn't matter so much when it comes time for med school as long as your ec's are good, good gpa, etc...yet I can't help being concerned that, at say my state school I would be cutting myself short..

Also, my parents are fully backing me no matter my decision, but it's more of a "we'll help you however you can...we'll just have to take loans" and the whole fact that they won't be the ones paying back the loans in the end...I will..on top of bills from say grad or med school.

Thanks for any help or input!

Stony seems to be your best choice, I agree with you. BC would be nice, if money was not an issue. I agree with you about Case. If you feel it is not worth it judging on a combination of academics/social/financial, it sounds like a reasonable decision to me to choose Stony.

thanks for the quick reply and what part exactly were you referring to about Case?

also does anyone know if binghamton's rep as the "ivy of SUNYs" really holds any weight once you're looking at med/grad

I know a lot of students at both stony and bing and both say there is a large amount of unhappy students that don't want to be there, but it was their only option and so school spirit suffers as does the overall morale...most of them have told me between the two it really doesn't matter as long as you excel, but if I'm sure of med stony is for me and business would be bing...leaving me torn once again as I'm still tentative in my majors

And yes I'm aware I use ellipses over punctuation sorry ><; lol

ubitastic i'm facing the same decision in choosing between stony and bing. I want to do pre-med with a psychology major. I'm going to visit both schools before I make my decision though. I'll be paying more money for bing, but still it's not to much. If you go to www.mdapplicants.com , although it's not a great representative sample, you'll find several applicants for med school from both stony and bing. Good luck in your decision

thanks a lot for the site I'm looking it over now good luck on your decision and I'd love to hear what it is...I'm going to stony on the 15th for a concert and the business welcome day just for the sake of going

*mini bump

still have yet to make final decision... =/

I'm 80 percent bing right now and 20 percent stony. Most likely bing though, but i think i'll need another week to make my final decision.

I've heard of Bing being referred to as a public Ivy...When I visited the campus, attended classes, and spoke with students, I found that way too many TAs taught classes. The professors weren't all that accessible either. I'm not saying TAs are necessarily a bad thing; some people don't mind having a TA teach a class a sometimes a TA can explain things in a way students can understand better. And maybe I spoke with the wrong people when I visited and maybe the professors weren't around during the time I visited, but that was the impression I got from Bing. Stony sounds like your best option if you are set on medicine, but you may want to visit all three schools first. Maybe you'll get a different impression of Bing than I did and maybe you'll actually like living in a smaller setting.

Oh I didn't mention I did in fact visit bing, I loved the campus but I absolutely loathed the surrounding area and how dull and cold the campus seemed at times...I think it's going to come down to stony versus bc...=/

You didn't mention how much money Case gave, so it seemed to me that if the social atmosphere and geographic location bother you, you should not pay a lot to go there. It is a great premed school, though. If they gave you a lot of money, then it's worth considering. You will find unhappy students at any school. I've read a lot of unhappy comments about BC, too. Whatever you do, you will still have options to transfer to other places, so just make your best decision now.

Stony Brook seems like the best fit for you. Their business program is improving, and though it's relatively weak now it has been improving. Worst case scenario, you have to transfer out (not too far either, as Baruch is right in the city and is great for business). SUNY SB has great sciences and I just feel as though it's a good fit for you.

thanks kafka I just slept over at my friend's dorm at stony and I did feel comfortable with the other students and even looked in on some classes, so I'm considering it with a little more enthusiasm now.

and Case gave me about 11k in scholarship with additional loan options..it was a fairly good deal considering bc gave me 1800 in scholarship -_-, but I'm not sure if that's enough for me to consider it over my other options....

Probably visiting BC this weekend..
clock is ticking...may 1st =/
AHHHHHH
