Hi I’m a senior girl living on the North Shore of Chicago. I have been accepted at both Gtown and BC and am now having a really hard time deciding between the two. I visited both and had a great time so my decision only became harder. I like the community feeling at BC and think that the football games would be really fun especially in the beginning of freshman year. Also, I like that BC seems to have a greater Catholic presence than Georgetown. However, I’m a pretty serious student and know that Georgetown is probably more academic and prestigious.

I’m in the arts and sciences school at both schools but would maybe be interested in transferring to business. I’m not sure which city I like better both seem fun. And the parties at both schools were great. I dont know what to do!! Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi snic89 - I am not a student, but a parent with a D at BC and a S at Georgetown. Both schools are pretty amazing and you will probably be happy and successful at either. My S was accepted at both and decided on G-town because of SFS. My D needed to decide between BC and Providence. She decided on BC because it was a better fit for her major. What I will suggest to you is what I suggested to them. Sit down and create a list of the pros and cons of each school. Look at your major (and in your case - what you might be changing to) and compare the programs. Look at the housing situations. Do you have four years of housing at BC? If not, you will need to move off campus your junior year. Is that something you want to do? Remember that many freshmen at BC live on the Newton campus that first year. Do you want to ride a bus to class every day? Many students do not mind that, but it may be important to you. Students tend to move off campus at G-town for their junior year. Are you interested in the study abroad programs? Study abroad is huge at both schools. If you are interested, which school offers the best program for you? Both schools are in pretty amazing cities, but compare which city might be best for you. G-town is in G-town, enough said. BC is in a beautiful setting and is easy to get to Boston by subway. Is weather a factor? Boston can be pretty brutal during the winter. What about transportation issues? What about friends? Do you have friends attending either school? Is that important to you? Some of these things might seem minor, but when you are comparing two amazing schools, you might need to look at those minor items to help you with your decision. What I will say to you is that both schools are amazing and whichever you choose, a year from now I am almost certain you will be so happy with your choice and you will think how you could have ever considered the other school. Good luck!

As Dogwood said, you cannot go wrong. I aplied to both and was denied from G'Town and accepted to BC. I am going to BC and I absolutely love BC and Boston. I am going into the business program and I went to the admitted eagle day last weekend. From there, a girl that was accepted to Arts and Sciences asked how hard it would be to transfer into the business school. The dean guy of the business school said it is very hard and only a few people are allowed to transfer. Another interesting note is that the average class size of the business program is larger that the other schools. It is rouughly 46 students. Not too big of a deal, but something you may want to consider. I am very excited to be going to BC. Georgetown is also a very nice campus. I would have a hard choice, as you are, but I would probably be leaning towards GTown due to the prestige. Good luck with your decision!!

whats your major? for most disciplines GTown would have the edge on BC, however there isnt much of a difference between Carroll and McDonough if you do decide to try to go for business.

Narrowing colleges down to a few is something best done rationally with the mind; the final decision seems to be done best with the heart/gut.

Just as it's not really possible for someone to like or love two possible boyfriends or girlfiends equally, I don't think it's possible to like 2 colleges equally. Therefore the challenge is to find methods of detecting the one you REALLY prefer. My 2 favorite methods of doing this are to (a) get a tee shirt from each school, then take a jog or go to the mall wearing one, then the other...one will feel "just right"; and (b) look into a mirror and pretend you're 30 years old and someone just asked you where you went to college...say "I went to Boston College" and "I went to Georgetown"...one will feel "just right."
