I'm from Boston and would like to know if its worth choosing G over BC

Unless the cost is drastically less, like the aid package from BC is better, or the student gets one of BC’s merit awards, most students I know choose G over BC.

Being from Boston, one advantage of BC over G is that you get the local knowledge, "favorite son’ status possibilities instead of starting out anew. (also can be an advantage to start out anew, bear in mind). Also, depending on where you live, if things get tight, you might have a commuting option as an out for BC, which you won’t for G.

They’re both very competitive, great schools. I also think most students if they were admitted would probably choose Gtown over BC because of more internship and networking possibilites. Both of them are pretty even in tuition costs. Both Boston and DC are great cities. It could come down to what you plan on studying. Either way they are both great schools.

One of those schools wishes it were the other.

I’m hoping that is not haughtiness, but rather jocular wit.

Great school vs even greater school. You can’t lose.
As a separate matter, why does being from Boston weigh in favor of BC? It’s obviously a very subjective, personal thing, but going to college away from one’s home turf can broaden the scope and nature of one’s learning.

My daughter attends Georgeotown and I can honestly say I would send her there all over again - it has exceeded our rather high expectations for academics and college experience. I do not know a lot about Boston college but of the 3 students that I know who attended from our SF High School, two did not like it at all and regret choosing it. One young man is having a great time - all three are wonderful students and wonderful young people. One of the girls has had rotten luck all the way through from not getting her classes to getting the worst living situation. Twice. Maybe this is just bad luck but for every nice thing that has happened to our daughter at Georgetown, this girl has had a disappointing situation due to no fault of her own. I’ve heard great things from the families sending students to U of Notre Dame. Boston College is supposed to be so great, but based on what I’ve heard, our son will not be applying there, although his college counselor put it on his college list. This is a shout out to BC parents and students - I’d love to hear some good news about BC.
