i think BC is totally lost this year. I can’t believe I got waitlisted and someone in my class who has a lower GPA, rank, less EC, SAT scores and everythign else and she was admitted. I don’t get the process at all… I mean I’m not planning on attending BC at all, but the waitlist stuff just bugs me.

i guess they have something specific they're looking for.

Of course, it has a lot to do with who read your paper, and how they were feeling that day. It's a horrible thought, knowing the rest of your life is determined by a few minutes of some random person's time.

Anyway, don't get too bummed about it. Apparently BC's admissions were quite sporadic this year.

i don't mean to be negative, because i know how you feel, but numbers really arent everything. recommendations, essays, interest in the college...etc, play a major part of the application process.

also, colleges look to accept people that they think might actually attend. i mean, yeah they obviously prepare for the fact that most aren't, but, they know not to admit 1000 kids who they know will be going somewhere else

i think admissions at almost all schools have been getting weird. one of my friends was accepted at UVA and waitlisted at UGA- in Georgia, a TON of people go to UGA in-state, so it's really not all that difficult to get in if you're a resident.

i think they're looking for a variety of students, so in one location they might be looking for a better GPA, SATs, etc., but in another town they might be looking for something completely different... this process is very confusing, but i hope you have gotten into a great college anyways

I disagree bostongirl. Because there were so many students who applied to colleges this year, I find it hard to believe that admissions even bothered to read the essays or recommendations because there was simply not enough time to do so. Instead, I think they based their decision off a few minutes of looking at numbers.

Its unfortunate that it happened that way because if BC actually did read my essays and recommendations, I would be attending next year. Oh well, good luck to all who will be attending!

I am 100% certain beyond any shadow of doubt that they certainly read your recommendations and essays. Please do not sway someone's opinion or belif based on speculation. Also, BC declares that they do not care about interest in school for regular applicants, it may be different once you're on the waitlist but often times they are looking for different kids for different spots. Also, your friend may have applied to a different school at BC.

Sclass88, that's rather pretentious of you. You don't know for sure if your essays were good or not; that's such a subjective topic that it's very difficult to judge.

Of course they read your essays. Otherwise the selections wouldn't have seemed so random. Only kids with high test scores wouldn't have gotten in. They're looking for diversity and interesting people, not cookie cutters, or people who are full of themselves or anything like that.
