Be honest! Do I have a chance?

This is me.......

Scores/GPA:
3.9 unweighted GPA
top 10% in class of 800
27 ACT

High Schools attended:
9-10th grade: Redwood High School (public school in California)
11-12th grade: Winter Park High School (public school in Florida)

Since I moved across the country at the beginning of junior year, I was unable to take any AP classes during 11th grade. I took all Honors and devoted myself to Newspaper class. For my senior year, I am taking 4 APs (AP Calculus I, AP English Lit, AP Government, and AP Econ) and am editor in chief of my high school newspaper. I also have five A's and one B currently.

Last summer, I applied and was accepted (there were over a hundred applicants and only ten were admitted) for a five week summer sportswriting internship with the top newspaper in Central Florida- The Orlando Sentinel. I interviewed top athletes from the Tampa Bay Bucs and the Orlando Magic and wrote stories that were published.

Although, the internship is over.. today I am currently freelancing for the same newspaper. Recently I have wrote game stories on local high school football teams.

I got letters of rec from a staff writer and the editor of the sports section of the Orlando Sentinel.

Rate me at these schools:
-Univ of Southern California (TOP choice. My great uncle was head of the Science & Health dept and wrote me a letter of rec as well-- I know legacy helps!)
-Univ of Michigan (Ann Arbor)
-Univ of Florida
-Boston Univ
-Univ of Miami (Florida)
-Univ of Washington (Seattle)

I am an aspiring journalist hoping to pursue my passions at USC!! My USC Admissions interview is this weekend! AGH!

Looks good for BU. I don't know about the other schools.

Univ of Southern California (TOP choice. My great uncle was head of the Science & Health dept and wrote me a letter of rec as well-- I know legacy helps!) 80%
-Univ of Michigan (Ann Arbor) 70%
-Univ of Florida 90%
-Boston Univ 100%
-Univ of Miami (Florida) 100%

GL :p

Oh wow! 80% for USC! If I got into USC I think my life would be COMPLETE! After moving to Florida after living my whole life in San Francisco, USC would be just about PERFECT!

Any tips for the USC Admissions interview ;)

bump......

You look very competitive to me. You have also selected your schools carefully and you could get a fine education in any of them, so your cumulative chance is 100%!

Must have sucked to move in junior year. Was the move for good reasons or bad?

It was for my dad got a new job in Florida.

Thanks for the reply!

bump bump bump

Would love to hear some feedback :D

U of M looks pretty good, although the only thing I would worry about is the ACT being slightly low. Do you know your U Mich GPA?

And did you take the SAT?

Sorry I can't help with the others.

I did take the SAT and got in the low 1200s out of 1600. I think the 27 ACT ranked a little higher. How do you calculate your UMich GPA?

Raise your ACT and take the SAT. Your extracirriculars are already awesome so you don't have to worry about that. You have a strong chance at all of your schools.

UMich is 10th and 11th grade A=4.0, B=3.0. No weights.

My GPA stays around the same.... since it is unweighted. I can't raise my ACT score. I decided that raising it one point (my goal was 28) was not worth it. I'd rather spend time stressing on my esssays. I mean applying into journalism -- essays have to be better than perfect!

Thanks for the input! So, assuming that this is me. Nothiing changes. Test scores ain't going any higher, unfortunately test taking isn't my best attribute.

Lindsey, in at Washington and BU. Good chance at Miami. Good luck!

-Univ of Southern California- reach
-Univ of Michigan (Ann Arbor)- slight reach / match
-Univ of Florida - match
-Boston Univ- safety
-Univ of Miami (Florida)- match
-Univ of Washington (Seattle)- match

BEST OF LUCK!

Thanks guys!

Also might I add that my USC interview is tomorrow! No one who is applying to USC from my school (in Florida) is attending an admissions interview. The reason being that the closest place to be interviewed is Philadelphia. But USC is my #1 choice so I'll go to Philly if it'll increase my chances .. at all, especially over my classmates from Florida.

Just had a great interview with the Admissions director for the school of journalism. They were all happy that I came to Penn all the way from Florida just for a 30 minute interview. I definitely think they'll remember me! :)
