There’s a subforum for chancing. It’s called What Are Your Chances?

I doubt that anyone will reply here. Sorry.

EDIT: I’m an idiot. I thought that this was the High School subforum.
Anyway, projections are useless unless it is concrete. A 200 point jump is hard enough. 450 point jump is even harder. I would say that most of the schools that you mentioned are low reaches or matches, considering that you get a 2000 on the SAT. Practice tests usually does not correlate with actual SAT tests, even if it’s from the BB. Remember that.

@Hawkace I’m on the “What are your chances” thread. What are you talking about?

@KiaraInNYC‌ Read my EDIT.

Oh lol, we posted at the same time @Hawkace What about my ACT? Should I use that instead? Or try to get my SAT up and use that instead?

bump

Bumpppp bump bumpp!

I only have experience with UMD but since you’d be considered OOS I think it’d be really competitive. And it also depends on how much you can afford. Your GPA is decent but since there’s so many people with 4.0s and near perfect SATs, it’ll be difficult to stand out even with being an African American. Do you have any awards? I think it would make you more competitive if you had awards since it shows you’ve achieved something outside participation.

The big thing is that even though some schools aren’t considered “elite”, very bright accomplished students apply to them as both stafeties and legitimate choices. Therefore, competition becomes fierce and opportunities for merit based scholarships aren’t as available. Also, you said you were interested in journalism and while many schools claim major isn’t considered when applying, there will probably be many other AA females majoring in journalism as opposed to say, CS, and those students may have more awards or recognition in that field.

I just went through the latest admission cycle and I will say that while I have many awards for science and dance, 4.0 (3.9 on midyear report) SAT over 2000, and I was rejected by 2 ivies. Yet, with another ivy and UMD they were greatly interested in the fact that I can speak 3 languages (they tested me on the spot) and study more on my own, so sometimes just a little passion can give you that extra push. Also, I would caution against even hoping that being an African American would help because now there are so many competitive students that are URMs that schools could probably find someone more accomplished than you (and this is coming from an African American female).
