Do you go to Davidson Magnet School?
I just heard "rigorous public magnet school in Georgia" and thought of Davidson, because that was the only one I knew of besides the one I attend. Just wondering.
And I would say in everywhere, except a strong maybe from Stanford?

Skipped Stanford as well. In everywhere, except Stanford. OWuldn't say you have no chance because you do. But, a we know, nothing is certain. Best of luck, budz.

probably in everywhere except stanford. Your ECs, class rank, and grades are not up to par with even the minority applicants at the school. And the fact that you attend a magnet school will lessen the benefit of urm status at non state schools.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the OP is going to get into Stanford. While his course load isn't as rigorous as some, he says he went to a tough magnet school so I'm sure that adds some credibility to even the non-AP classes that he's taken. As for his GPA, a 3.7 isn't going to be that big of a detriment. In fact, I'm pretty sure it won't hurt him at all. A 3.7 really isn't that low and while it won't make him stand out, its not going to keep him out either (he doesn't need much else to make him stand out)

The EC's are a little weaker than even most URM applicants, but the SAT's are going to largely overshadow that. I remember hearing somewhere (don't quote me on this) that last year there were less than 1000 African Americans that scored over a 1500 on the SAT's in the whole country. Thats not even factoring in the writing score. If the numbers are similar this year I'm willing to guess that any African American with stats like the OP's are going to be a hot commodity at HYPS considering there are barely enough of them to go around...

am i the only one who thinks the OP is just not gonna get into Stanford? The classes you've taken don't look very challenging and you've got few APs, and your GPA isn't even that high for such an easy courseload. I'd say great chance at the rest, since you've got AA working for you, but low chance @Stanford.

Also: if your classes aren't designated honors, stanford doesn't care whether they'd be "considered that at other schools." what other schools? lots of applicants come from rigorous schools; you don't find many Stanfordians from those grade-inflated public schools we hear so much about.

Sorry to be harsh... you're actually quite a good applicant; I was only pointing out where I see weaknesses in your stats that are gonna do you in.

yea i understand perfectly what you are saying dchari. I actually kinda knew that already. any more thoughts, anybody? is my courseload that bad?
