how old do you usually have to be to become an EMT. i know my town offers emt training classes but i dont really know how to get started. they say you have to be 18 to be an official EMT but i know someone who is 16 and is an EMT. how is that possible?

I don't know what the regulations are in the state you live in, but in NY to be a certified EMT you have to be 18+. The only way to get certified is to take a class and pass a state written and practical exam, and you have to be 18 by the time of the exam.

Is it possible that the 16 yr old is an EMS volunteer, but not a fully qualified EMT yet?

I joined my local ambulance corps recently. Gonna start EMT classes soon. ;)

so wait, are you a certified EMT? or are you an EMS volunteer? and how old are you?

thx

I'm 17, turning 18 in December. I'm not old enough to be an EMT yet, so for now I'm just a volunteer.

my friend is an EMT and she's not 18 yet. she took a class or something and had to take a written and some other test that took her like 5 times to pass lol

i live in texas and my friend had to be 18 before he could become certified. i believe he started training before though.

I figure you can train before your 18, but not actually be an EMT
