What's the story with bed risers? Do most people use them to get a little extra storage space under their beds?

Can beds be stacked to make bunk beds to get more room?

How do people secure their laptops so they don't get stolen? I know that student-student theft isn't too much of a big deal at WashU, but a $1000+ laptop can still be too much of a temptation.

Do most students buy more comfortable desk chairs once at school? I saw some pictures of desk chairs and they look pretty crude.

What are the rules for hanging stuff on the walls? No nails/screws? No double-sided tape? What?

1) The beds are adjustable, such that you can make them high enough to fit your dresser/plastic drawers/small fridge, whatever underneath them, so most people don’t have additional bed risers.

2) Yes

3) Laptop locks, available everywhere (amazon, electronics stores, target, the school bookstore) but really, laptop locks are unnecessary unless, say, they’re at the library and are running to the DUC to get something to bring back to eat and leaving their stuff in their cubicle/table. Or I guess if your roommate leaves your door open all the time when he/she isn’t around?

3) Some do. Most people just buy cushions for their chairs, which makes them a little more comfortable.

4) No nails, though I put a few pushpins in my wall last year and didn’t get charged. Nothing that’s going to pull off the paint-- blue tape and 3M hooks/strips are what most people use.

3) Some dorms have the nice desk chairs and not the c**p wooden ones.

The wooden ones are horrible - I’ve always used my own desk chairs and used the wooden one to put things on. Note that the student summer storage store charges $100 for a desk chair to store over the summer. It can be better to a cheapish one if you plan to use their services.

Bed risers, as mentioned above, generally aren’t needed since the beds are adjustable.

I haven’t had a problem with the wooden chairs. They’re not too bad. Anyone know what kind of chairs are in Elliot B?

What about bedbugs??? Any need to purchase those mattress covers to protect from bedbugs? Have they been an issue in the past?

Not as far as I know of
