For what it’s worth, I also live in John Jay and I’ve only seen one roach all year and it was smallish and dead.

My son came back from his Sophomore year after living in McBain after suffering an infestation of bedbugs during finals. We quarantined everything he brought home and cleaned it before allowing it in the house. No comments on bugs so far this year in Watt.

im extremely scared of bugs, particularly bedbugs. i was read about how they’re everywhere in nyc, on the subways, etc. i heard about someone at barnard getting them this year.

are they really that prevalent?

I don’t know much about how prevalent bedbugs are at Columbia, but I live in NYC, so I can at lest say that I’ve only had problems with bedbugs maybe once and that was about 5 years ago. It was a minor problem at that. It’s more common in college dorms from what I hear (since people from everywhere are bringing something from somewhere, and it spreads because of the shared space). But I would highly, highly doubt that it was the subways or NYC itself that was the reason. So no, I’m gonna say they are not that prevalent at all from my experience. Hope that helps.

thanks…im just getting really nervous because i read all the news articles and stuff. maybe a current student ca give me some input on bedbugs in the dorms?

if bugs are as prevalent as the news/people i know make it out to be, i would actually consider transferring
