Beefed Up Stats Here?

One thing I noticed on CC is that the stats on forums of many schools are extremely "beefed up."

Is that true for Tufts or are the 2300 acceptances and 2150 rejections just the CC stats and don't truly represent the students in Tufts?

If that is the case, please chance me!!!
I've been cruising around Tufts' Website and this forum and I am simply in love with the fact that I can expect a warm, friendly and unique atmosphere at Tufts. I will definitely apply to Tufts this fall!

P.S. I'll be visiting Tuft's campus next week! Very excited.

Lol... I'm wondering if admissions officers look up users and track them down to their school and find out who they are on this website... if so, it might not have been wise for me to have posted yet

This line from Dan really moved me and made me consider this school even more. I feel like I’ll be joining a school where I’ll matter and not just my stats. Prior to this, the thought of attending a small school wasn’t a pleasant idea and there wouldn’t be a social life, but now I think that Tufts has a very warm environment! I hope I can confirm this during my visit!

Go to tufts.edu or collegeboard for the official statistics.

You’ll have a shot. Whether you get in will depend largely on your softs and perhaps your SAT retake.

What about my B’s and B+'s? While looking at the stats of other CCers, I find myself subpar in both SAT and GPA…

@Detail:
Sorry but what do “softs” mean?

and by the looks of the stats on <a href=“Tufts University”>Tufts University, my stomach became weak…

192 students enrolling in Engineering for Class of 2012.

Average CR for Engineering Students: 705
Average Math for Engineering Students: 752
Average Writing for Engineering Students: 708

It seems like my SAT score is below average in all three areas and my GPA is on the low side as well.

I guess I have to definitely nail my second SAT and my Subject Tests to even have a chance of getting accepted…

Soft factors like your essay.

I dont think colleges care much about Bs your freshman and sophomore year, especially if you’re getting As in harder classes now. Your SATs are already pretty close to the median of accepted students. A bit of studying and a retake could probably get you there.

Softs refer to your personal statement, other essays, and letters of recommendation.

I see, thanks for the responses.

My hope just got bumped up again…

Be creative in your essays - don’t be afraid to show your true self. If you’re silly, be silly. If you’re serious and determined, be that. Just make sure you show WHO YOU ARE (as Dan stated) in your essays.

Also, considering EDing. The acceptance rate is higher and Tufts does care about whether you care about the school so it might help. However, I remember reading somewhere that Tufts’ message is that you will be admitted if you are right for Tufts. But keep in mind, Tufts admits 1/3 of its class ED. You are bound by the contract to attend, but if your financial aid package is insufficient, you can appeal or withdraw.

As long as you write really exquisite and creative essays that you demonstrate YOU aside from the numbers, you stand a chance as well as anyone else. I was accepted with a lower gpa and lower test scores than you so just focus on the essays at this point! Good luck! :)

I think you have a strong chance.
I got in w/ a 1420/2020 (I suck at writing) and a 3.857… maybe it was my essay on gardening, dumplings, and LOTR that won them over.
Although one factor that may be detrimental to you is that there may be a lot of strong candidates very similar to you from the same region, school’s love geographic diversity.

Son had a strong application, but he did not have perfect anything… including essays. Take the hardest classes you can, do not slack one minute of the time you have left in HS… including HS (and if you do apply ED, it become even more important to get as good a grades as you can through first semester at the very least.

Essays and, as I’ve come to see, recommendations count for a lot. They really give you a 3-D face and that’s a good thing.
