Being a TA at Barnard

Hello,

I was reading in the admitted students blog that Barnard students can be TAs as early as sophomore year (the girl who had written the article mentioned being a TA for an intro to bio class that she had taken just the year before).

What are the specifics to how one can be a TA at Barnard? I am fluent in German (German background) and I have a 5 on the AP as well as language diplomas from the German government, so I have fulfilled my language requirement. But would it be possible for me to TA an elementary (or any level) German class as a freshman?

Thanks so much!

No.

TA’s are used in courses with large lectures and weekly sections, like intro math and science classes. German language classes are taught by Columbia and Barnard faculty and Columbia PhD candidates.

My d was asked to TA a science lab (biology, I think??). She did not apply for this…it was a really great thing, I think, and she enjoyed the experience and the extra $$ involved. :)
