Being funny in a college app?

Yes, I just read the infamous "clam fart" thread. I laughed... so. hard. :D AND HE GOT INTO YALE! I've read stories about other funny applicants getting in as well.. is humor actually good for your app then? I feel like it would set you apart if the rest of your app was pretty "normal" for the school you applied to.
Any CCers do this before? results?

Humour is when it gets extremely risky. Unless you can be 95% sure that it is legitimate humor where it is both relavent to your academic/personal life, rather then just off-topic humor that might offend someone, then sure you can. But it’s very risky.

eh… like, I’ve danced an international art form for 8 years. If I put like, “Spinning in circles really fast, aka Kathak” then… would it be funny? I’ll be a junior next year, and I was on this site for inspiration for summer (aside from my internship, running, and SAT prep), so I have a while to go, but… I think it would be hilarious. :D

Errr, humor can be good sometimes, but the joke you suggested wasn’t really all that funny. Lol sorry. But if you can think of some clever, witty jokes that wouldn’t offend any potential adcoms reading your app, you may want to include them.

yeah, I know it wasn’t! :stuck_out_tongue: It just wasn’t offensive  but just like… in general… do you think it would make someone “stand out”?
