Being one of Jehovah's Witnesses in College

If you’re a jw and are going to school, living away from home, this is for you.

I don’t mean to stir up controversy but have an honest hearted question. Ultimately, it is each and everyone’s decision to decide whether or not to pursue a higher education. We have been warned against perhaps moving away from home and losing focus of the more important things.

Just to put it out there, I am a jw myself. I’m going into my senior year and am finalizing my list of schools that I will be applying to this fall. My family and I have decided that moving out of the house is something that will most likely happen with me continuing my education.

Being that I am considering many schools in big cities, my question is for those of you who face the same struggle: How do you get to and from your Christian meetings? Do you have a relative/brother/sister that picks you up? Do you walk/take the bus? And is it safe for you to do so? (Sorry. I realize that that’s more than one question.)

Thanks in advance.

Start with list of colleges and towns and talk with the ministers of your local congregation. They can help you connect with JW in other towns and you can include distance/ease of getting to services into evaluation of schools you visit. Do they have a college ministry arm of church? If so maybe a Google search will help. Same with if there is an affiliated college.
