Below average GPA, average ECs, chance for some average schools?

White female, Junior in high school in Pomona, public, non-competitive.

GPA 9-11: weighted, 3.67, unweighted 3.4
UC GPA (10-11) weighted 3.92, unweighted 3.5

Ideally, lets say I bring up the GPA to 3.74 weighted and 3.5 unweighted (9-11)/ 4.02 weighted and 3.63 unweighted (10-11), how much would that help for UCs? I have had an upwards trend in my grades, however this year I received a B+ in Spanish (I've gotten A's in Spanish 1 and 2, how bad does that look that I got a B?)

I've taken all honors and AP classes. Took AP Euro, earned a 4 on the exam

Currently taking AP Chemistry (A in the class first sem.) and AP US History (B+ in class)

Chances for UCs in order of preference
UC San Diego
UC Davis
UC Santa Barbara
UC Irvine
UC Riverside
UC Merced

How much of a reach are UCLA and UCB?

Also, San Diego State, Harvey Mudd College, California Polytechnic State University, Claremont McKenna

OOS Schools: Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, also chance for the Prescott campus

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

How much of a reach is Carnegie Mellon, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

SAT I: 710 Math, 680 CR, 700 Writing

-Varsity swim, two years, co-captain this year
-In NHS and CSF
-Involved in academic decathlon
-VP of Key Club, Secretary in Red Cross

What can I do to improve my stats?

Bump - I would try my best to chance back!

Maybe you’re not getting a lot of responses because you’re asking for A LOT of schools. About half of those schools I wouldn’t know how to chance you for.

I’m sorry, I just found out about this site and I got a little excited. I doubt I’ll be applying to all those schools. I should know already that Carnegie Mellon and UCLA & UCB are reaches. So the schools I have any real desire of attending are

UC San Diego
UC Davis
UC Santa Barbara
UC Irvine
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona
Rose Hulman Institute of Technology
Rochester Institute of Technology
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Is that still too much?

Also, what could I do to improve my chances at my reach schools?

I would try to do an EC that REALLY stands out, like winning some sort of national contest. I know it’s easier said than done, but it would really help you stand out and make up for your GPA.

That’s a little better now. I am going to be applying to a lot of the same colleges you are by the way! My dream is Embry-Riddle on an ROTC scholarship!

I would say you’re in for all the UCs

Reach for UCSD and high match for UCI.

San Diego State - IN

And the rest are reaches. I guess you could take the SAT II’s to make yourself seem more competitive, your SAT I scores are fine. How are you going to explain your low GPA, since you don’t even go to a competitive high school?

Also, I am not sure how your B in Spanish would look. May be looked at negatively since Spanish is typically an easy class… But I can’t imagine it making or breaking your admittance.

Your grades aren’t terrible, and your SATs are average for UCs. However, you don’t really show a strong EC drive.

UC San Diego - low reach
UC Davis - low reach
UC Santa Barbara - match
UC Irvine - match
UC Riverside - in?/match
UCLA - reach
UCB - reach
San Diego State - in
Harvey Mudd College - reach
Claremont McKenna - reach

Chance me please!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/860949-ill-chance-you-back-weird-case.html

I did not list a lot of my ECs on here. But I’ve won some awards in swim, participated in beginning band and then concert band, and have done a lot of community service. At least 300 hours worth, with Red Cross. That’s still not all, but if it would help you chance me, I’ll gladly list everthing.

thanks for the chance

i think you in to all the schools you want with ucsd being a reach and ucb, ucla, and cm being high reaches im sorry

Applying Early action/decision will help your chances.

I go to RPI right now (sophomore) and your stats are better than mine.
