Below average student, looking for Colleges. Need Advice. Under a 3.0 GPA.

So, where to start. I'm not really that dumb, I'm just lazy. I now regret my highschool years, and I wish to repeat them again! I'm a senior and I took all honors and ap classes. Hear me out, I've been getting stuck with math teachers who cannot teach at all, and leave after one year not caring about the students! I'm not blaming them, I just wish that this will not happen in the future... I know my gpa is under a 3.0, probably around a 2.7.

SAT 1 math-630 writing 700 CR- 500( I know...I don't know what happened! I took practice tests and I've been getting the low 600's)

I'm looking to raise my SAt's to atleast a 2000, if I can, a 2100. I know I can do that as Ive been studying this summer and during the fall.

SAT us history- 600 I forgot to study...

You cn get into 85% of the colleges in the US.

Try your state schools.

I'm about to post my grades, and can someone tell me the exact gpa? I live in Atl, Ga.

Freshman-

bio honors- b/b
geom honors-c/d
geography honors- b/b
span 1 c/b

Sophomore-
honors la-a/b
honors alg 2- failed and retook during summer :K hopeless teacher/ Alg 1-A
chem honors- c/d
ap wor history b/b
honor spanish 3 b/b

summer school alg II(college prep) - a/a

junior year-
honors la-b/a
precal-d/c
phys honors c/b
ap psych -b/b
ap us history-b/b
honor span III- c/b

Note! Most of my b's are high b's as in over a 85, just couldn't reach an A! Thanks

I just want to see if I can possibly get into vanderbilt, gatech, uga, emory, or any other good schools. Possibly syracuse.

I want to see if I can raise my gpa up to a 3.0 before I send apps in!!! This is really important.

So with an 1830 SAt, looking to raise it up to atleast a 2100 and I'll try really hard as in I'll work like a nerd! I'm going to do my best to get straight a's this semester as well as bring my sat up! I'm taking ap chem, ap calc, ap gov/macro, ap lit, forensics, and spanish 4.

So if all goes well, I'll have atleast a 2000 SAT, just a bit under a 3.0 gpa and also volunteer work in keyclub and other clubs. I did a lot of clubs! So please chance me!

2.82 GPA with your summer class; 2.75 GPA without that class.

You are setting your sights WAY TOO HIGH.

vanderbilt: REJECT
gatech: REJECT
uga: ???
emory: REJECT
syracuse: REJECT

Awe man!! Comeon, as in the tiniest of hope. How'd you calculate my gpa with the summer classes? I've been getting 2.73

My friend applied to tech two years ago with a 3.0 gpa and 740 math score, 620 language, and 620 writing and got in.

Actually he got in with a 3.0 and a 740 math, 590 on both cr and writing.

Your GPA and SAT are below his 3 and 1930, and your math SAT score is very low for tech.

I may have miscalculated, but your GPA is below 2.9 for sure.

Yea, I'd figure my gpa was really low, but I'm looking forward to raising it up as well as my SAT math score. It's definitely not impossible as i've got perfect on one section a few times before. But not the others :D

You won't break 3 even if you get A's in all your senior classes.

That's what I thought and calculated too. Dang it! If only I could have raised those b's to a's!!

Do you guys know any colleges that takes really high sat scores rather than gpa?

Your SAT will never be a substitute for your GPA (your classes and grades earned in them). Your GPA is more important than your SAT.

Your high SAT but low GPA shows that you were lazy and/or chose too many honors/AP classes to do well in them. This situation indicates that you have the potential to do well in school but you did not; admission officers see this as a bad combination.

Even if I do get straight a's this semester, it won't look good. I think I dug a whole way too deep.

If you actually get A's in your senior year, then the college officers definitely know that you can get A's. Their assumption about your potential would be proven correct.

Please choose less competitive and more realistic colleges when you apply.

Alextharp: I think the key to your educational future is in those words you wrote: I'll work like a nerd. So, you'll study 18 hours a day, raise your grades to all As, still have under 3.0 gpa, and MAYBE those SATs will go up 200 points. What do you really expect adcoms to do? What they see is a kid who "had it in him" all those years and didn't produce. And now, he wants to work like a nerd his senior year, so that they will look favorably upon him? Why should they choose you and not the kid who did work like a nerd, get some A's, kept a job, captained a sport, worked 3000 hours in the community blood bank? (you get the idea)

Go to the best state school you can, then please do work like nerd. Transfer to that dream school after a year demonstrating that you really want it.

Sorry if it seems harsh - it's the mean mother in me.

I mean even if it's of the tiniest of hope, I'm still going to try my best.
