I got accepted to marshall business admin. I applied cuz i want to do something related to business and USC has strong alumni connection. However, the other day I found out there's international relations global business program at USC under CLAS and I really liked it. My question is right now is there benefits for marshall students only like guaranteed internships/jobs/connections? If so, should i double major in global business and business just to have those benefits?

the only benefit you’ll have is the fact that you’ll be able to say you are in/graduated from Marshall, which carries a lot of weight in itself. It’s possible to succeed without that, obviously, but here’s what I’d do: stay in Marshall. Do Marshall coursework that satisfies both degrees and IR classes that satisfy only the international business one. That way, if you decide you don’t like the global aspect after all, you don’t have to reapply to Marshall and IR credits count as electives. If you decide you want to go the IR route, apply and you haven’t lost a thing. Or you can decide you wanna double major. Hope this helps :)

Besides the prestige (yes, Marshall has a nice name here in Southern California)
Marshall does come with a lot of perks other majors simply do not get.
A major in IRGB is great and all, but in the end its still IR, not Marshall (there is a joint program, BAIR [BusAdmin-IR] that is Marshall, u might want to look into that).
So the perks:
Marshall students get the Marshall Carrier Source (a list of jobs and internships open solely for them to apply to).
Many more study abroad opportunities - If you come in as a freshman you have the opportunity to go on a GLP or LINC trip to any destination of your choice.
Also, there’s no language req for studying abroad like other majors do, so if you want to go to China, you don’t need to take 5 semesters of Chinese, or if your hearts set on Italy or France but you can’t speak the language, no problem! Even if u didn’t take Portuguese, you can still go to Brazil for a semester.

Also, don’t drop Marshall, even if you might change your mind. Transferring into Marshall is quite competitive and people spend semesters doing pre-transfer work, and then not getting in, setting themselves back a year or so. You can still put off taking Marshall courses while taking GE’s until you finally decide to stay or not (and by then you could have already been able to go on a LINC trip, join Marshall orgs, get free printing, resume workshops on the breezeway, recruiter receptions etc…

Keep Marshall, its great to have. Plus, you get so many other elective credits, you can easily make time to add another major, study abroad AND finish in 4 years (maybe throw in a minor too with a summer class), u just need to plan ahead.

**Side note, IRGB students can sometimes take part in Marshall programs/trips like the Sophomore ExCel trip, but they have to petition, and are not given priority.
Marshall is where a lot of students want to be, you are already there! congrats!

Also, there is no point double majoring in IRGB and Business (I’m not even sure you are allowed to). Almost 60% of the major courses are identical, just one is under Marshall, the other is under ‘Dornsife’. BAIR or BUAD + a minor in IR would do the trick.
