D is a freshman living in the dorms and has identified two friends she would like to room with next year, one of which is a Regents’ Scholar. As Regents’ Scholars are guaranteed university housing while under scholarship, I was wondering how that plays into rooming selection. Do Regents’ get priority for on-campus apartments, for instance? If so, if they coordinate housing choices with non-Regents’, do those non-Regents’ students get “pulled along” with the Regents’ student into whatever housing she is assigned to? Or are their chances in getting to room with the Regents’ student a total crapshoot? I don’t think the answer will dissuade D from requesting these girls as roommates (she would be happy rooming with either or both) - we just want to be prepared should she not wind up with either and get random roommates.
If the students are placed in the same dorm and type of room, then they can mutually request each other as roommates. However, if their housing lottery numbers or dorm and room type requests result in not being in the same dorm and type of room, then they cannot be placed together as roommates.
@ucbalumnus I know they have to mutually request each other and have their first 4 choices be identical (with the 5th being “whatever is available”). That doesn’t mean that the housing gods have to house them together, correct? I was just wondering if they DID follow all of the roommate request guidelines, would they wind up together in a choice higher up the list as one of them is a Regents’ Scholar? (this was probably a better way to ask this questions lol)
