I'm a prospective Regents scholar and am aware that scholars get top priority for housing. However, does anyone know if those who do not receive the scholarship still have some edge over regular admits regarding housing, or if they are just thrown in with the masses? Also, is housing based on a lottery system? Thanks for any info!

Those who do not receive Regents are indeed thrown in with the masses. You really shouldn’t worry about housing if you’re an incoming freshman though. Cal guarantees housing for your first eight semesters.

Yeah, housing is pretty much a lottery-based system.

first 8 semesters… which is pretty much all 4 yearS? lol
isn’t it 2 years.

lol i hadn’t noticed that until you mentioned it.

It is 2 years guaranteed for transfers, 4 years guaranteed for admitted freshmen.
Useful only if you want a double b/c it guarantees that you get one.

Freshmen only get 2 years guaranteed:

**Freshmen admitted to the fall semester 2009 receive a 2-year housing guarantee

Where is the 4 year coming from? Transfers … well, it’s ambiguous, really, but they’re at least guaranteed one year.

By the way, this only applies to those admitted for the fall. Those admitted in the spring get nada (not that people interviewing for Regents are likely to be in that slot).

The 4 years guaranteed is for Regents’ only.

Ah. I assumed the OP knew the Regents guarantee, hence asking what happens if a Regents award isn’t offered. My bad!

Well, there IS kind of something to worry about, because while you have guaranteed housing, it may not be what you want, and for some, that’s a huge deal. My friend got stuck in Unit 3 with a very sketchy roommate…who’d bring his girlfriend over and make things very awkward…let’s say, some explicitly awkward situations.

I was happy to be in Foothill. And am happier to be in an apartment with my own room. Living conditions >> risking a dorm for the social experience, in my personal opinion.

undecided, I was actually asking what happens if I don’t get Regents lol. You didn’t misunderstand ;)

mathboy98, I totally agree. Even if I get guaranteed housing, I’d probably want to move to an apartment after my 2nd year.

after 2nd year for sure. that’s enough socializing rawr!!!
but 2nd year, i’m still doing housing though i got unit 2 trips. bigger rawr poss? I didn’t have a punching bag but my bed took a heavy beating after i found out.

and @ math. You should’ve told your friend to make the situation more awkward by taking out his phone and starting to record them if anything got “special” so to speak. hahaha

4 years in dorms? lol.
I’m moving out next year (2nd year). I want to cook ramen.
