Benjamin Franklin Scholars

Hey, everyone. I was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania as regular decision applicant. With the decision letter, I also received Benjamin Franklin Scholars (BFS) information that gave insight into the program. Does every admitted student receive this letter and eligible to apply? Or only selected students receive it and can apply to this program?

Everyone admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences is invited to apply

Why should someone apply to BFS? Thanks!

Everyone is invited to apply but the top 5% of applicants in CAS receive a letter saying that if they decide to join, they will get in

Why should a student apply for the BFS program? @Strive4success @tizeissmart

In my day, which was in early '70’s, there was no application for BFS. BFS’s were just named from the Freshman applicant pool based upon the strength of their records. I’d estimate about 5-10% of Arts & Sciences students were designated BFS’s. I believe one can apply for the General Honors program, in which BFS’s can participate, based upon your record at Penn. GH or Honors courses like Physics 170-171 are more demanding than their non-honors equivalents. However, you are more likely to get top or marquee profs in the honors versions.

OP got a special admission letter different from the generic one sent to most admits.
