I’ve been stalking this thread for a little while now haha. I’m still waiting for a reply as well, and my message hasn’t changed from the original. I applied to L&S. Congrats to the guys who made it in!

alicexx-what are you stats and what is your major?

3.9 psych major. I’m not counting on good news since it’s so competitive and impacted, but we’ll see what happens…

@Citusguy: I also turned in my appeal on the 14th. Since they updated, saying that they received it and are reviewing it & will try to get a response by June 1, my portal hasn’t changed. I am also applying under L&S.

alcexx-did you get into UCLA?

yeah I found out early in the morning today(yesterday) that I got accepted to UCLA =) sooo relieved!

Half the L&S ppl got their “we will try to respond by…” portion of the letter dropped & the other half’s portal hasn’t changed at all since the first update.

W/o the “we will try to respond…”
-Dmitry (~may 5)
-Reme11 (friday, may 13)

No change:

For the no-changers, what’d you guys submit in the package?

alicexx- you also initially got rejected by UCLA as well?

I turned mine in way early (May 5th or something).

I think mine got to them around the 13th as well.

@pinoiako916 Yeah I was rejected at first, I believe it was mainly a communication error as well as personal stuff. Are you appealing to Berkeley as well? or going to LA?

going to UCLA. UCLA’s psychology program puts way more emphasis on research and science than Berkeley’s psych program.

UCLA has a research institute in medical psychology as well as neuropsychology as they have a medical center on campus while Berkeley does not have one.

I went to Cal Day and talked to people about the psychology program. It did not have the type of psychology I was looking for, which is neuropsychology.

Basically, UCLA treats psychology almost as similar as a life science rather than a social science which Berkeley does.

@alicexx: did you submit a letter/letters of rec(s)?
@aoeuid: same question

No letters of recommendation, just five or so paragraphs explaining my situation, plus some extra information. I believe I sent in my appeal around the fifth of May.

Oh man, me too. me too.

@pinoiaki916 wow that’s awesome you’re doing psych as well. I’m also looking into neuropsych. Do you already have a career in mind?

@rize177 no I didn’t send any letters of rec

So as far as this whole portal update thing goes, it seems as if we (L&S) were split between those who have/don’t have letters of recs.

(well, citusguy said he submitted letters… but he’s the only one who did in the no-portal-update group.)

@ppl who’s portals haven’t changed since the first update: don’t get discouraged. before i submitted, admissions told me that a letter of rec doesn’t necessarily need to accompany a successful appeal.

Yeah, easy to say, but let’s not do the neurotic thing here and freak out about every change on the page.

alicexx–congratulation, I heard the psychology is very impacted in UCLA. UCLA always make their decision before Cal lol.

citusguy-is ucla/berkeley psych as impacted as CSU nursing programs?

Good luck on your appeals guys!
