Berkeley Admissions

Since Berkeley Engineering takes your intended major highly into account, is it still possible to change majors during your sophomore year or so if you get interested into something else? Like for example, I currently cannot decide between applying tothe EECS program or the civil engineering program. But since I heard that the EECS program is almost impossible to get into, I was planning on putting civil engineering on my app for admissions and, if I decide that it isnt for me, switch later on. Is this allowed at Berkeley? I heard rumors that at other engineering schools once you pick your major it is impossible to switch out of it.

Thanks.

P.S I am an instate prospective student if that changes anything.

Is it allowed? Yes, you are allowed to submit a request to change your major.

Will a request to transfer into EECS be successful? Most likely not; as you know, it’s at the very least tied with bioengineering for most impacted major. It won’t be any easier to transfer to it.
