I think they are looking for total UC transferable units so they have a quick eyeball figure. I would add them and in the comments put:
“Included in P/IP list are12 units from spring 2015 noted in my TAU.”

@FUTUREUCLABRUIN1 sorry I should have mentioned that, I forgot to add it to my post. Yes, I did ask about whether we should include spring units if they’re technically PL instead of IP, and they said that you should, even if it’s sort of a estimate. I’m in the same situation because I have winter intersession. However, I think I’ll know for sure because my registration day is in the middle of January (less than a week for now) so by the deadline of myBerkeleyApp, I’ll already be registered and enrolled in the spring courses, just technically not taking them. Even if you don’t register for classes til after January (registration date not start date), I think you should still include the units you plan to take on the Row 14 too. Or like lindyk8 suggests, you could include it in additional comments too (always helps to clarify and use it than not)
Thx again bearly!!
@Bearly Thank you so much!
I had a question about the “Breadth/General Education Requirements” section…I called the number at the bottom but the woman on the phone wasn’t familiar with the form and only got irritated with me :((
Anyone also doing IGETC: for the Physical Science/Biological Science section, I took Environmental Biology and the Environmental Biology Lab…so do I add up the units for both classes in the “Biological Science WITH Lab” row or just list the units for the lecture? They were technically separate classes, so I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to list both or just the lecture? It says “with lab,” so I wasn’t sure if that meant add up the units or not.
ALSO, for the “Language Other Than English” section…if we took a language in high school…do we just list three of the semesters that we took the class? It only gives you three rows, even though I took more than that in HS…so which semesters from HS do I list? There’s also the box you can check if you took 2 or 3 years of the language, so do we even need to list classes from HS if we check off one of those boxes?
Any help or suggestions would be great…I’m probably just overthinking things but I thought I should ask :)>-
@gdkane I’m not totally sure since I’m fulfilling that part of my IGETC with AP exams. But I’m assuming (so don’t take my word for it) that you just list the class itself if it comes with a lab. Remember that they’re still looking at your regular app, so if they’re wondering about the lab portion, it’ll say so anyways. And if you think about it, fitting/adding both on the same row would be weird (5-6 units, two different grades, two course titles). But like I said, I’m not 100%, so maybe someone else who is in a similar scenario can suggest what they did?
As for LoTE, I just listed 1 year per row (even though it asks for term). And even if you check the 2/3 year thing, you should still list what language classes you took in high school. But if you follow what I’m doing (1 hs language year per row), I guess you may have a question for what to put under grade/term…for term I just put the year, and for grade, I’m totally not sure since there are two different grades for one course cause it’s high school. Dang I should have asked that too when I had the chance…
And that sucks that you call receiver got irritated with you (and didn’t know aobut myBerkeleyApp forms). A lady picked up on the other end when I called, was knowledgeable about all of my questions, and was pretty patient with me. And I stuttered/repeated myself a lot haha
But now that you bring up LoTC + Lab, I might just give them another call. Hopefully I have the same luck!
In the end, I don’t think it’ll matter too much; as I said I’m pretty sure they’ll be lenient (I think people are bound to put different variations of things given the flexibility of the forms and the different coursework scenarios). After all, remember they still have your regular app + TAU. Berkeley just likes to be fancy haha
@Bearly Thanks so much! Okay, I feel better now. And you’re totally right about combining the units for the lecture and lab; it would be weird and definitely wouldn’t work if the student hadn’t taken them during the same semester and received the same grades for both…Also, let me know if you end up calling them back and asking about LoTE! I ended up listing my last three semesters of Spanish in HS because I got A’s those three semesters and in my earlier years I got B’s, so I thought it’d look better LOL (even though I know it really doesn’t matter). Maybe I’ll call again too; I’m glad to hear that you talked to someone who was really helpful. I always get nervous calling, so it helps to have a friendly and helpful person on the other line.
Thanks again!
@gdkane DUDE, RIGHT?! I called the UC Berkeley office because I had a question about the foreign language requirement and the lady on the phone seemed super irritated and impatient – like wth? you work in admissions and your job is to help students who call that number lol…
@mynamesnotfred Omg it’s so true, though! I was like…why are you even here rn? It made me want to become an admissions officer just so I could someday be really helpful to prospective students LOL B-)
Add lab units to the lecture on the form. Usually the CC catalog lumps them together, like 4 units, even though technically it is 3 + 1.
Oh really? Okay, cool. Thanks @lindyk8
Just keep in mind that they’ve probably answered the same questions all day, so don’t take it personally!
Or you could have just caught them on a bad day If you feel like your question wasn’t answered, call back at a different time and ask for clarification.
@Bearly So I just got off the phone with a very friendly Berkeley admissions officer…However, she told me some things that were a little confusing…
For the science and lab, she just said to list the lecture first and then the lab immediately after this. This would work, except that the corresponding boxes say “Science with lab” and “Science without lab,” so wouldn’t it be confusing to list the lab in the row that says “Science without lab”? I’m not sure, but she said to list them in that order…
For LoTE, she said that I should list each year, as you did, but to put the overall grade for the year? Some years I got a B my first semester and an A my second semester, so what would the overall letter grade be? She also said that I need to list all of my LoTE grades from HS in the additional comments box…!!!
I’m not sure how much of this I’m going to do. I don’t think it matters as much as I’m making it out to be, so I’ll just stop overthinking it, I suppose. XD
@lindyk8 But what about if you received different grades or took the lecture and the lab on different terms?
It only gives you one line for entry, correct? I think in that specific form they just want to see that you completed the IGETC req : one science without lab (3 units), one science with lab (4 units).
Does the IGETC form ask for grade? I can’t remember. If so, I guess you need to use an online GPA calculator and determine the composite grade. I’m not sure how else to do it, as they only have one line for course and lab. You could add in comments that you blended the two grades and units. That’s what I would do anyway.
The other UC transferable form has you note all classes by term, so the lab should be separated out there, right? So it would show the science course (3 units) and the lab (1 unit), plus their respective grades.
Obviously, I’m using semester units as examples.

@gdkane yeah I am confused now…also missed the time frame to call since I was in class. I would think that “Science without lab” just means a science class without a lab portion, but maybe she thought (or if it is the case?) that it means the non-lab (lecture part) of a science class, and “science with lab” is the lab part (that is usually 1-2 units)? But I feel like the first interpretation is correct, because there are science classes that have no lab part, and the IGETC just wants at least one to have a lab. So yeah…confusing
To be honest I’m still going to try to call and ask. But like I said, in the end I don’t think it’ll matter tooo much. I think they just wanna see some proof/plan that you plan to get certified for IGETC, not something they’ll run through a computer algorithm or something (given all parts of the form is hand-typed). Hakuna matata
Hey guys, I was wondering if you guys know the answer to this already, to save myself a phone call. So I’m a little bit confused on how to fill out the ‘UC Transferable Courses Summary’. Do we include all classes that we’re taking after Fall Quarter/Semester prior to transfer? Or just classes we have taken up until Fall 2014? Because as of right now, the amount of units I have don’t equal the amount necessary needed to transfer, but if you include my winter and spring courses, it will be enough, plus I mentioned AP scores on my app too, which I’m sure they’ll look at. But I just want to double check and not screw anything up. Thanks for the help!
@tintinucd yes include winter/spring units in Row 14 (even you are not currently taking them but plan to)
@Bearly Thanks for sharing your question and the answer to it. I was puzzled by the same thing.
Including non-CCC credits seemed contradicting since it stated ‘ONLY’ CCC…oh well.
Appreciate it.
Hi All,
Does anyone know if Berkeley sends out supplemental questionnaires to transfer applicants as well as freshman applicants? Or is it just for freshman applicants?
Thanks, and good luck to all of you.
