hey, so i have a few questions about how the coop wait list system works. if i were to apply in fall 2012, how likely would it be that i got into one by fall 2013 (preferably one of the smaller ones, but i would be ok with cloyne or cz)?
also, if you apply for a coop for the summer, do you automatically get to stay after that (through fall/spring of the next year), or do they kick you out at the end of summer? thanks!

BSC summer contracts will give you seniority points that will give you priority in future BSC house assignments over the majority of new applicants with 0 points. However, a summer contract does not guarantee a fall contract.

Fall or spring = 1 point
Summer = 0.75 point
Full board fall or spring = 0.50 point
Dinner only board fall or spring = 0.25 point

ok awesome. also, when you apply for a summer/fall contract, do you specify which house(s) you want, or does the bsc let you know which ones are available and you pick accordingly?

You rank order your house preferences. When you are at the top of the queue (by points), you will be offered a space in your highest ranked house that has space available. If none of your chosen houses have space available, you will remain in the queue until one of your chosen houses has an opening.

If you were to apply now, you may have a chance at getting in for fall 2012. Additionally, spots may open up in the first week so if you had made other arrangements that were flexible (aka, not the dorms), you may be able to get in. You would have a great chance at getting in for spring 2013 and basically guaranteed a spot for fall 2013. If you get in for summer, you don’t get to “automatically” stay but your seniority points will move you much higher up on the list so you should be able to get into at least one.

Are any of the coop’s north of campus a good option for a new grad. student who is more interested in their studies than party ?

I know there are two coop’s that are designated for graduate or returning students but both of them seem to be a very long way from the north side of campus for someone without a car who may have classes or lab work at night.

Generally, smaller = quieter.
