Hola guys, quick question for the EECS'ers and anyone else who thinks they can contribute..:

What two SAT II does Berkeley "seem" to prefer more?

MATH (800)
CHEM (720)
PHYSICS (Self-study)

Thanks guys !

Thanks guys !

they will prefer the higher 2 scores

So they don't prefer physics because it's EECS?

I don't know why you asked for the two higher scores. Take physics and get the best score you can get. Or take it easy and be satisfied. Anything above a 700 will probably help you. The more 700+'s, the better.

I think I remember something. There's like 2 required SATII's right? Those 2 are required. Take more for a better chance to get in. They will be looked at and merited.

There IS two required ones.. that's why I asked the preferred two.

For example, Biochem for Berkeley would prefer a Chemistry/Biology SAT II rather than a History SAT II, right? So I'm asking if EECS prefers a specific SAT II in addition to math. I hope that was easy enough to understand.

Your post implied that you were planning on taking physics already b/c you're self studying. It's a good idea b/c EECS has more to do with physics than chem.

The "preferred two" are Math and Physics. But you already took chem and got a good grade on it so it doesn't matter. chem will help as well.

Thanks calkid.

Any other advice? :D

Work hard but enjoy high school while it lasts. Work hard on the essay. It's probably the most you can help yourself for the least amount of time spent. Advertise yourself well on the app and good luck!

I think I enjoy HS too much ;[

i didnt know they paid so much attention to SAT IIs..i got in EECS with math and bio, so i think math and chem would be perfectly fine

i would spend more time studying for the SAT (or raising my GPA, or writing essays, whatever you need to work on) than taking another SAT II especially because your chem score is pretty decent

I think you should take Physics seriously since it's a basic course for EECS. Physics should be the most important SAT2 besides Math, and it did help me get into EECS (as an international student) this year. So, as long as you are not uncomfortable with SAT2 Physics, prepare to do your best at it! ^_^

i'm pretty sure that for engineering in general, you need math IIC + a science sat ii. I don't think it matters which science sat ii, but they prefer one that's closely related to your major. However, if you're like me, and took ap physics c, you get kind of screwed over with the physics sat ii.

I dunno if they'll care that much whether it's physics or another science. That is, if you get an 800 on Chem versus 700 on Physics, I would go with the Chem score. It seems to me that they would care less about non-science SAT IIs, but if you got say, 800 on SAT II Lit versus 600 on SAT II Bio, the SAT II Lit would probably help you more.

This is of course, assuming you get a say in which SAT II to submit. If they require math IIC and a science SAT II, and nothing else, then obviously my previous comment is moot. I'm not too familiar with EECS SAT II requirements.

Thanks guys !
