so i already got accepted to uc davis, ucsd, and ucla as a freshman but my mom unfortunately has breast cancer. I can't leave socal because that would be messed up and family comes first. If im going to stay here im thinking of going to a community college and then transferring because i can transfer to berkeley (?). and i can save a lot of $$. Do you guys know if they offer like a guaranteed admission or something like that? i need advice please..

wait till you get admitted, and then talk to the OUGA

Yes, get admitted and see what happens. Next August is a long time away. As posted above, the office of undergraduate admissions will help you with a leave of absence if appropriate and then advise you which classes to take at the local CC. Best of all, they will welcome you back with as low as a 2.0 gpa, because that still makes you a student in good standing. Good luck with your Mom. You are definitely right that family comes first, but you need to listen to your Mom if she advises you to stick with your prior college plans. It all depends on her treatment and recovery schedule, which isn't always as predictable as one would like.

I don't think there are any guaranteed options to Berkeley as a transfer (I believe it's any CSU or UC except Berkeley).

Go to UCLA. It's a good school. Better than doing the CC route.

I know the cc's around here Central Valley no longer have a TA with Berkeley but you might want to keep the following info handy.
Community College
Transfer Center
2440 Bancroft Way, Suite 205
University of California
Berkeley, CA 94720-1082

There are two separate issues. If you get accepted, bessie offers some good advice on how to proceed.

If you don't get accepted to Berkeley, and want to go to a CC and transfer, there is no guaranteed route to transfer. You just need to get very high grades and fulfill the appropriate prerequisites and apply and hope for the best. There is a UC Transfer section of this forum, go there for advice on this part of the issue.

Anyway, I wish you and your family the best.
