Does anyone know how easy it is to get a 1 person apartment on or near Berkeley campus? I don't really want to have a roommate, or live in a dorm.

Nearly impossible because these apartments are limited and usually are given to disabled students/seniors.

Yeah I kind of figured this. What about apartments where I could have my own bedroom? Is that rare also? I’m looking at the housing site, and it seems like this could be a little tricky also. Thanks.

On-campus housing: Singles are pretty rare. Martinez apartments are 4 single bedrooms per apartment, so you’d get some privacy but still be sharing a kitchen/lounge/bathroom. Martinez is pretty nice, it’s one of the newest buildings, dorm internet is great, bathrooms and common areas are cleaned for you once a week, and you get access to the usual dorm resources. Martinez is popular though, so housing lottery might not work out in your favor. Wada has a similar set-up, but each apartment has two doubles so it’s probably not what you’re looking for.

Off-campus: There are definitely one room apartments around campus. Your commute will probably be a bit longer (buses are good, or you could walk), and it’ll be really expensive. Housing is generally pretty expensive here, that’s why most people end up with roommates. :P

Thanks! I’ve accepted that I will have a roommate, which is fine. I just can’t imagine having to share a bedroom, so I really hope I can get one with my own bedroom, but we’ll see. I think Martinez looks really nice. Do many students end up living in non-university housing? Because I like the idea of being in a social environment like the university housing would have, but sharing a bedroom just sounds awful lol
