Hi guys, I was just wondering, to anyone who has lived in Martinez apartments, how was your experience? Are the halls, etc generally noisy, do you feel it is roomy enough, are the apartments themselves pleasant? Are the entrances to the apartments inside the building, or do any of them lead out into the street? Also, i have found a group of 4 to apply for martinez with, and 3 of us are regents, so what are the chances of us getting Martinez? I've heard that we get priority housing, but there is nothing on the Berkeley website that says so. Also, what should I be looking for when selecting the individual apartment location? Is 2 story better than one story? Thank you for the input!

I can answer some of your questions. Having 3 Regent’s greatly increases your chances of getting into Martinez. Each person gets a lottery number (even the non-Regent), but the Regent’s kids get better numbers. Among Regent’s there are better numbers than others, so the person with the best lottery number registers first AND brings up all the roommates with him/her!

I think the single rooms are pretty small and narrow, but at least you have your own room with a door. Still, I would rather have my own room so my roommates don’t wake me up with their early alarms or late hours. Oddly, my son wants to move to an apartment next year where they’ll have two doubles. From what I observed (the few times I’ve actually walked into the dorms), most kids hang out in the “living room” area. I hardly ever hear any noise (certainly no loud music/partying), but I also thought Unit 2 was very quiet. It was like a library the times I visited last year.
