Hi,
I got into both Berkeley and UCLA and I am majoring in Anthropology.
I have no idea what school to choose. everyone tells me to go to Berkeley, because of its reputation, but really, which school offers a better Anthro program?

I want to specialize in sociocultural antrhopology and want a minor in development studies. I want to work in an international organization or in the government.

I know that Berkeley is more prestigious, but I want to know which open more doors for me. I think UCLA might be better because it's located in such an important city (where I think i couuld get connections to start working in a company), but would berkeley give me the same opportunities aswell? I don't want to stay and live in San Francisco.. and I think that if I get job opportunitise they would probably be from there right?

Which university offers more research opportunities and internships for undegraduates?
Which is better in sociocultural and archaoelogy? I don't like biological anthro!! :S
Which has beter faculty, doing more research?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I really don't know how to compare those two schools. I also want to do my masters, which school would help me more with that?

Anthro majors and anyone who knows, please advise me on whatever you can

i’m now a college student and planning to have anthropology as my major as well.
May I ask what’s your GPA when applied and accepted for both UCB and UCLA?
Thanks.

I think UCB’s Anthro dept is ranked slightly higher, but really the difference isn’t huge. Both schools are great! I’ve also heard the head of the Anthro dept @ UCLA is fantastic!

I say choose the school which you’ll enjoy being at for the next few years.

LA hands down… like you said, it’s located in an important city. Everyone says Berkeley is better… but honestly, their program isn’t that great. LA is way better for cultural, archaeology, and linguistics. Go to LA with me!

I noticed quite a few people in the UCLA threads want to go for Anthropology, whether BA or BS. It appears to be a pretty popular program (but not to the point of being impacted). Plus…you said you don’t want to stay in SF. So…go ahead buy yourself a SFO–>LAX ticket.

Hi, well I applied with a GPA of 4.0 so i didn’t have any problems, but I think Berkeley accepts people with GPAs of 3.6 and higher, I’m not sure of UCLA

thank you all so much for your insight and opinions…I talked with some anthropologists I know and they all told me good things about UCLA so I am almost certain I will go there :D
