Berkeley Provides Most Leadership + Academic Potential For Asian Americans

Will Yun Lee - Fast and Furious

John Cho - Harold and Kumar

Gene Kan - Gnutella Developer

Norman Mineta - US Secretary of Transportation

These are probably some of the most visible Asian Americans in the media today. And they all attended their undergraduate at UC Berkeley.

Undergraduate is the most sensitive and growth shaping experience of anyones lives. Asian Americans growing in traditional sheltered high school environments, will sometimes feel suffocated in reaching their true personality potential at other top schools. However, at Berkeley, this is not the case, as you can see from the Asian American alumni above that have changed America by their visible personality and leadership abilities alone.

wut did they major in?

Gene Kan was EECS I believe. And Norman Mineta was Haas. John Cho was English major, and Will Yun Lee, Im not sure, but he was on athletic scholarship.

Jerry Yang- FOUNDER OF YAHOO!- Stanford

Yeah that's right, Asian-Americans from Stanford actually do something truly spectacular like starting up publicly traded multibillion dollar companies rather than making B-rated movies or embarrassing themselves in front of millions like Berkeley's William Hung.

Sure Jerry Yang. But is he VISIBLE???

No he's not. Also, given the lack of Asian Americans in the US media, UC Berkeley Asians are quite good at shattering ceilings and stereotypes. To be a visible person, you need more than just smarts. You need charisma, personality, presence, etc... All these leadership skills are not developed overnight, they are developed at Berkeley. Where Asian Americans can truly reach their inner potential.

To be honest with you, the Stanfurd Asians I meet seem very geekish, mild, and omega males. Berkeley is where the Alpha Asian males are at.

How did those two guys get into acting?

...and you know you liked William Hung.

"Sure Jerry Yang. But is he VISIBLE??? "

Uhh....you obviously don't read the Wall Street Journal and don't keep up with the business world. Jerry Yang is probably the most powerful Asian-American there is. Period.

No. Charles Wang is more powerful. CEO of Computer Associates.

But the most powerful of them ALL?

MAYASOSHI SON. CEO OF SOFTBANK VENTURE CAPITAL/Inc/Holdings/etc.

He went to Berkeley for undergraduate.

bows to thunderous applause

LOL Softbank is not even publicly traded on the NASDAQ or the NYSE. You call that power? It probably isn't even worth a billion dollars. No-name companies don't count man.

YAHOO- NASDAQ national market-- net worth: 56.40 Billion Dollars
Softbank- not publicly traded-- net worth: cannot be determined and probably under 20 million

Having control over a 56.4 Billion dollar company is definitely much more noteworthy. Mayasoshi might as well go suck on a peanut. He is nothing.

I have no clue. I never met them on campus. They musta hung out with a different crowd.

Softbank actually had a significant stake in Yahoo during mezannine round venture financings, and had a seat on the board of Directors for Yahoo. So in fact, Jerry Yang was working for Mayasoshi Son.

So Stanfurd Asians should be careful. Because y'all are gonna be workin for a Berkeley Asian one day. MUHAHAHAHAHA!

Jk man. Peace.

OK, your officially an idiot. You have no idea wut u are talking about. I wont even bother educating you.

If Moresushi invested a negligible amount of stock in Yahoo it doesnt mean that he is Yahoo's boss. That is such a illogical argument. Being on the board of directors, if that is even true, still makes Moresushi a relative loser compared to the greatness of Yang.

Jerry Yang is literally 5000 or more so times richer than Moresushi. He could buy out Moresushi if he wanted to but Softbank is such an unattractive company that Jerry Yang could care less about it. Moresushi can indeed afford to buy a lot of sushi though. Cheers!

Mayasoshi Son is hailed as the Bill Gates of Japan. Yes, and he is a Berkeley Asian.

The Softbank Empire

PUBLISHING

With its $2.1 billion acquisition of Ziff-Davis Publishing, Softbank became the world's biggest computer publisher. Ziff, with annual revenues of $850 million, has 80 print titles, including PC Magazine, Computer Shopper, PC Week, and Mac Week. Ziff also publishes more than 200 ``how-to'' manuals annually. Son's plan is to expand to 1,000 print titles by 2005.

TRADE SHOWS

Softbank is now the biggest computer trade show organizer in the world, with a 75% lock on the lucrative U.S. market. Through the 1995 acquisition of the Interface Group, Son took over Comdex, the industry's biggest venue.

INTERNET

Softbank has spent $200 million snapping up stakes in some 30 Internet startups including Yahoo! CyberCash Inc., and inquiry.com. Softbank Interactive is also a big player in Web advertising with 40% of the U.S. market.

NETWORKING

Softbank owns 20.4% of Novell Japan Ltd., the booming subsidiary of the top network software supplier. An alliance with Cisco Systems is aimed at promoting a Japanese standard for network equipment.

SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION

Softbank, a wholesale distributor, controls more than 40% of Japan's software market. Softbank distributes 30% of Microsoft's programs in Japan and has teamed up with the software giant to develop PC game software.

MULTIMEDIA PROGRAMMING

A joint venture with Nippon Telegraph & Telephone, plans to distribute digital movies and software to Japanese homes via phone line. And, together with Rupert Murdoch, Son bought 21.4% of TV network Asahi National Broadcasting, with an eye toward launching a satellite-TV service in Japan. In the U.S., a Ziff unit is creating The Site, a daily computer show for the MSNBC cable network.

"OK, your officially an idiot. You have no idea wut u are talking about. I wont even bother educating you."

Yeah I know Softbank is a venture capital company that invests in the technology sector. You call that power? You don't think Yahoo! invests on a much larger scale and actually buys entire companies out? Just face it. Softbank is a fly compared to the mammoth Yahoo!.

rooster you got pwned big time.

You see kids, thats what happens when your parents drop you too much as a baby. Go back to Wisconsin you racist %#*@(#

Okay listen here. Compare their friggin assests. Jerry Yang's 56.40 Billion versus what? How much does Softbank have? It's so small that it isn't even publicly traded. Moresushi can be Jerry Yang's call-boy but that's it.

China > Japan. Stanford > Berkeley. Do you not understand math sonny?

I don't think you understand how big Softbank is. It used to own almost the entire internet industry and the entire NASDAQ in Japan. Let alone just list on it.

Yahoo is seriously like a peanut compared to Softbank.

Mayasoshi Son owns an entire Baseball team in Japan. Jerry Yang, watches baseball games.

Owning a baseball team vs. Watching a baseball game... hmm now lemme think about that.

I said that for Asian Americans, Berkeley is a better environment in terms of leadership.

Do u have that much difficulty reading a simple sentence?

Here's a coupon for Hooked on Phonics. Go buy it.

<a href="http://www.webbuyingguide.com/coupons/hooked_on_phonics_coupons.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.webbuyingguide.com/coupons/hooked_on_phonics_coupons.htm</a></p>

BTW, what state are u in? Have you ever been to Los Angeles or San Francisco before? I highly suggest it you racist piece of shiet.

Afraid of the true numbers? If "Yahoo is seriously like a peanut compared to Softbank" then prove it. Why is Yahoo worth 54 Billion and Softbank isn't even listed? Yahoo is almost bigger than McDonalds and Nike combined. Go look for yourself on none other than Yahoo! Finance. Check the ticker symbols MCD and NKE. McDonalds and Nike have long been touted as symbols of Corporate America, and Jerry Yang, an Asian-American from Stanford University has surpassed two of America's biggest and longest standing corporations in less than a decade. I call that power.
