Berkeley Regents 2014

Did anyone receive a UCB regents invitation yet?

There is already another thread about this. No, they have not been sent out yet.

if you didn’t get an invitation for the leadership award does this mean that you have no chance for ucb regents?

I don’t think so…

Your receipt of this scholarship invitation does not in any way reflect on your application for admission to UC Berkeley. You are no more or less likely to be admitted to UC Berkeley because you have received this invitation, and your decision to apply or not apply for Cal Alumni Association scholarships will not affect your application status.

Hi everyone, I got the regents notification today!

"Dear Ms. (took my last name out here),

Congratulations!

On behalf of the faculty at UC Berkeley, I am pleased to notify you of your candidacy for the Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship. This award is the most prestigious offered to entering undergraduates by UC Berkeley, one of the world’s premier learning and research universities. Benefits include a monetary award, priority registration, guaranteed on-campus housing, a Faculty Mentor, research fellowship opportunity, membership in the Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholar’s Association, and financial aid advising.

As a Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship candidate, your admission to the University of California, Berkeley for the fall 2014 semester has been assured. Log in to myBerkeleyApplication on March 28, 2014 to receive your official notification and the conditions of admission.

Please select your interview date and time with a UC Berkeley faculty member today. Interview time slots are limited!"

Then it had specifics on interview times. So excited! Good luck to everyone!

^I can back that up.

Except my email said “Mr.” instead of “Ms.” :P

Congrats @gatsbydies on the notification! :)

You too, @neuromajor!

Do you think you might matriculate?

Got regents notification today- so excited!! Does anybody happen to know about how many students actually get the Regents scholarship out of those they invite to interview? I know that 200 will be chosen… but I have no idea how many are finalists… any thoughts? thanks

I saw on CC somewhere (read, not official but from a student who works in the office responsible for these things) that about 5% of admitted students get the notification, in 2009 (older data here) they sent out ~700 invites to apply. It’s probably a little higher now, I would guess between 700-1000. For sure not very many. Approximately 300-400 are chosen as regents, and then that ~200 number actually matriculate. Congrats on the notification! Make sure to schedule that interview ASAP, once they’re gone they’re gone.

Thank you neuromajor for all info! Just scheduled my interview!

*the info

It’s certainly nice to know we have the automatic in a month and a half early, regardless if we get regents or not. But our chances are pretty good, considering you HAVE to interview to be eligible, everyone obviously doesn’t interview, and if ~350 out of ~700 get it thats about half. Certainly better chances then getting the notification (or getting in!) :)

got the regent’s candidacy email today! There is a little phrase, “conditions for admission”. I know i’m being nitpicky, but out of curiosity does anyone know what that means? congratulations to everyone else who got it too

congrats to all!!! did anyone not submit financial aid and still got a regent invite?

Conditions are the exact same as they would be for normal admitted students, keeping up your GPA (as long as you don’t fail your classes you’re fine 99% of the time, but you know try to keep them at As and Bs), not doing anything dumb (like getting suspended or expelled or arrested), and meeting all the A-Gs (which you probably already have so don’t worry about that one). I hadn’t yet submitted my financials, I did indicate that I was applying for aid but beyond that they have no idea how much my family makes and I still got the invite.

@neuromajor maybe, though it depends on how much MIT will give. you?

thanks neuromajor! did anyone not indicating applying for financial aid and still got a Regent invite?
