Berkeley Regents 2014

@gatsbydies it depends on the ivies and where the money comes in for them, Stanford, Harvard, Brown, Columbia, Princeton and UPenn would all probably beat out UCB, dependent on the money situation. Oddly it would be cheaper for me to go to any ivy over a UC

@neuromajor hahaha we’re in nearly identical situations this is great

@collegebudi I got the regent invite and did not indicate that I was applying for financial aid

Did any of the international student get an invite for regents scholarship??

Got the Regents email today around 4 pm PST whooo

Any international students here? I got an invite for leadership award does that have any significance related to admissions?? Pl reply

I believe the Leadership award is different. I saw another thread on it. There’s also another UCB Regents thread.
I got my email at about 4:00 pm Pacific too.

Is there a separate thread for international students?

if you didn’t receive regents, do you still have a decent chance at getting into berk? :open_mouth:

@amandas0515 Definitely. The Regents scholarship is only offered to 1.5 to 2% of applicants whereas Berkeley’s acceptance rate is normally 17-18%.

DD got the invitation email yesterday afternoon.

Agreed @amandas0515, although the Regents invite is an automatic acceptance, it only gets sent to a very small group of students. For anyone who is still waiting, double check your UCB portal. If there is a notification on the bottom of the page with a star congratulating you on regents then you received it, if not (international applicant or not), then unfortunately you did not and you will receive your admission decision in late march. Congrats to all fellow recipients!

got my email yesterday. does anyone know by chance how many students receive that email and how many students are awarded the scholarship after the interview process?
oh and i have not applied for financial aid yet.

I already answered that question earlier in this thread @raichu123

I saw on CC somewhere (read, not official but from a student who works in the office responsible for these things) that about 5% of admitted students (approximately 1% of applicants) get the notification, in 2009 (older data here) they sent out ~700 invites to apply. It’s probably a little higher now, I would guess between 700-1000. For sure not very many. Approximately 300-400 are chosen as regents, and then that ~200 number actually matriculate. Congrats on the notification!

I got the email. I have some questions:

If you get the invitation to apply, are you automatically admitted?

How much money does it give?

I was actually hoping to rejected from Berkeley (for some very facetious reasons). However, if the money award is substantial, I might actually consider Berkeley - I’m not getting any money from my other schools other than token merit awards.

EDIT: Just saw the attached the PDF. 100k it seems. It looks like I won’t be going to Cal.

Yes, you are automatically admitted. It says that in the email. Without any additional need, it is $10,000 over four years, so $2,500 a year. If you are not going to consider berkeley, then don’t interview and take up a valuable space for someone who would.

@arrhenius Well, at least you’re not being arrogant…
Anyways, I got the email too. Last night. So excited!

I believe it means "don’t get uncharacteristically low grades (Cs, Ds, or Fs) and don’t get suspended, expelled, or arrested between November 30th and May 1st (date of submission - date you choose to go to Cal).

@neuromajor Do you know how to schedule the interview for the regents scholarship? I’ve been trying to on the website but nothing shows up when it says to identify my field of interest.

^Same here. I don’t wanna assume the worst and think all the interview spots have been filled, since I also assumed prospects were all guaranteed possibilities of an interview but it was first-come-first-serve when it came to time preferences.
